Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Join Logitech’s Cork-based CAD Team as a Computational Design Intern and spend six months turning algorithmic beauty into mass-market reality. You will own a self-directed project that transforms Grasshopper definitions into shareable, user-friendly tools used daily by Industrial Designers, Mechanical Engineers, CMF specialists and UX researchers across three continents.
- • Day-to-day you will author sophisticated Grasshopper scripts that generate intricate surface patterns, lattice structures and ergonomic form factors. Your code must balance aesthetic intent with injection-molding constraints, acoustic performance, sustainability targets and cost limits—then package the logic so non-experts can safely tweak parameters without breaking downstream geometry.
- • You will run iterative workshops with stakeholders to translate wish-lists into parametric inputs. Expect white-board sessions with color-obsessed CMF designers at 9 a.m., finite-element reviews with stress engineers at 11 a.m., and a quick user-testing sprint with UX before lunch. Your ability to listen, sketch and re-code on the fly turns multidisciplinary friction into elegant consensus.
- • Exploration is in the job title. You will benchmark emerging no-code and low-code platforms—think ShapeDiver, Rhino.Compute, Speckle, or even in-browser WebGL viewers—to decide how best to democratize your scripts. The outcome is a lightweight distribution pipeline that lets anyone preview pattern variants in real time, export STL or STEP, and feed PLM metadata back to our ERP system.
- • Robustness is non-negotiable. You will implement version control for every cluster, embed unit tests that catch edge-case geometry failures, and write plain-language documentation so teammates in Taiwan or California can extend your work long after the internship ends. Clean code today equals global impact tomorrow.
- • Visualization and storytelling matter. You will craft compelling slide decks, interactive prototypes and short demo videos that explain why a Voronoi lattice saves 14 % plastic or how a sinusoidal grip texture reduces slip torque by 8 %. Adobe Illustrator, After Effects and Figma are your allies when Grasshopper screenshots alone won’t do.
- • Data-driven iteration closes the loop. You will set up A/B test rigs—3-D printing 30 variants overnight, photographing them under controlled lighting, and running perceptual surveys—to quantify which parametric sweet spots delight users and survive drop tests. Your findings directly influence tooling decisions that affect millions of Logitech products.
- • Mentorship flows both ways. You will pair weekly with senior computational designers who have shipped award-winning gaming mice and enterprise webcams, while also coaching mechanical engineers who are new to visual programming. Teaching reinforces mastery and scales your impact beyond the six-month window.
- • Remote-first does not mean isolated. You will plug into daily stand-ups via Slack huddles, share screens in Miro boards, and occasionally sync your VR headset to review full-scale prototypes in Gravity Sketch with teammates on three continents. Time-zone agility is part of the adventure.
- • Finally, you will document everything in a public-facing case study that may be featured on Logitech’s design blog, earning you industry recognition and a portfolio piece that future employers will fight over. If you crave autonomy, global reach and the chance to see your algorithms in the hands of millions, this is your moment.
