- • Design, deploy, and maintain the company’s data and AI platforms that power intelligent products, machine learning models, and large language model (LLM) applications.
- • Own architectural decisions for data models including schemas, vector stores, and knowledge bases that support AI and LLM use cases.
- • Design and operate feature pipelines, embedding pipelines, and evaluation datasets to support machine learning model training, fine-tuning, and continuous evaluation.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership, development, finance, and data science teams to transform raw data into AI-ready inputs and actionable insights.
- • Ensure all implemented data and AI systems comply with security, privacy, and data-governance standards, particularly for data flowing to and from third-party LLM providers like Anthropic and OpenAI.
- • Build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Snowflake, dbt, and AWS architecture to support high-volume data processing needs.
- • Write and optimize complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze data for AI and analytics workflows.
- • Integrate Python-based tools and modern AI/ML frameworks with LLM APIs to enable retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and other generative AI applications.
- • Architect and implement new solutions from scratch that blend traditional data systems with AI-powered components, prioritizing reliability, scalability, and security.
- • Proactively identify and mitigate risks such as prompt injection, data leakage, and model drift in AI systems.
- • Leverage AI coding assistants and automation tools to accelerate development while managing trade-offs between tech debt, cost, and complexity.
- • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging AI/ML frameworks, tools, and best practices to enhance system performance and innovation.
- • Communicate effectively in writing and speech, both in-person and remotely, to align technical work with business objectives across departments.
- • Demonstrate courage in raising concerns, asking clarifying questions, and advocating for secure and sustainable engineering practices.
- • Work in-person in Austin, Texas, within a collaborative, dog-friendly office environment with views of downtown Austin.
- • Participate in daily catered lunches and utilize credits to dine within the inKind restaurant network.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- • 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer in a fast-paced, complex business environment
- • Expert-level proficiency in SQL with a focus on query optimization
- • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Snowflake, dbt, and AWS
- • Proficiency in Python and hands-on experience integrating with LLM APIs (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI)
- • Strong problem-solving skills and a maker’s mentality with experience designing AI-integrated data systems from scratch
