Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the full-cycle general accounting for Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, a 57-year-old nonprofit delivering critical reproductive health care to more than 200,000 women, men, and young people across L.A. County. You will steward cash, A/R, fixed assets, inventory, prepaid and accrued expenses, and other key balance-sheet accounts that keep our mission moving.
- • Drive a rigorous, deadline-driven month-end close for a complex $100 million+ operating budget, ensuring every journal entry, reconciliation, and variance analysis is accurate, timely, and audit-ready. You will coordinate with clinical operations, development, grants, and supply-chain teams to surface process gaps and implement continuous-improvement solutions.
- • Serve as the primary administrator and strategic power-user for our accounting ecosystem—currently Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) with future migration to Acumatica—owning user security, chart-of-accounts maintenance, workflow design, and system integrations that eliminate manual touchpoints and strengthen internal controls.
- • Produce and defend monthly balance-sheet and P&L analytics that illuminate trends, detect anomalies, and inform executive decision-making. You will prepare select financial-statement components, footnote schedules, and ad-hoc board presentations that translate numbers into mission impact.
- • Lead the implementation of new FASB/GAAP standards—revenue recognition, lease accounting, or contribution reporting—by documenting policies, designing control matrices, and training staff so PPLA remains compliant and transparent to donors, grantors, and regulators.
- • Manage external audit readiness year-round: compile PBC schedules, liaise with independent CPAs, and shepherd the timely completion of Form 990 filings. Your meticulous documentation will safeguard our tax-exempt status and preserve public trust.
- • Supervise, mentor, and develop a small team of staff accountants and senior analysts. You will set performance goals, review timesheets, conduct quarterly check-ins, and champion equitable career progression consistent with PPLA’s “respect and honor all people” value.
- • Partner with the Accounts Payable Manager to resolve three-way-match discrepancies, inventory-count variances, and purchase-order issues, ensuring that every dollar spent on medical supplies directly supports patient care.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally on grant reporting, donor-restricted fund tracking, and government contract billings. Your work ensures that every restricted dollar is released appropriately and that compliance narratives are clear and defensible.
- • Champion a culture of internal control excellence—reviewing segregation-of-duties matrices, updating policy manuals, and recommending system enhancements that mitigate risk while streamlining operations.
- • Model inclusive leadership by embedding equity in hiring, promotion, and day-to-day management decisions. You will participate in PPLA’s Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) initiatives and ensure your team reflects the communities we serve.
- • Maintain availability for occasional evening or weekend work during audit crunch periods or system go-lives, and travel locally to health centers for inventory observations or training sessions. Reliable transportation and a flexible mindset are essential.
- • Contribute to a mission where administrative excellence directly enables clinical excellence—every reconciled account, every closed period, and every clean audit opinion helps ensure that patients receive compassionate, affordable reproductive health care without interruption.
