The United States Department of Labor (DOL) is a cabinet-level department of the executive branch of the U.S. federal government responsible for the welfare of wage earners, job seekers, and retirees. It administers federal labor laws, sets workplace safety and health standards, and oversees the collection and analysis of labor market information. The DOL also provides resources for job training, unemployment insurance, and workers' compensation. Its mission is to foster, promote, and advance the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; to advance opportunities for profitable employment; to assure safe and healthful working conditions; to advance the quality of work-life; and to protect the benefits and rights to which workers are entitled.
