  • • Design, develop, and maintain global taxonomies and ontologies for consumer domains including grocery, alcoholic beverages, apparel, and other New Verticals categories across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo.
  • • Build and govern metadata schemas, attribute systems, and entity relationships within a unified global ontology platform to support merchant catalogs, customer search, and product discovery.
  • • Define and standardize hierarchical structures, attribute definitions, and entity relationships to ensure consistency, completeness, and discoverability of catalog data across international markets.
  • • Identify and resolve gaps in catalog quality, completeness, and taxonomy alignment across regions, improving accuracy and usability of product classifications.
  • • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, and regional teams to operationalize taxonomy solutions that enhance merchant onboarding and customer shopping experiences.
  • • Evolve taxonomy systems to unify structures across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo markets, ensuring scalable, consistent classification frameworks for emerging verticals.
  • • Apply best practices in ontology modeling, including hierarchy design, synonym management, attribute standardization, and relationship mapping to support machine learning and analytics use cases.
  • • Partner with Machine Learning and Data Science teams to ensure taxonomy outputs enable accurate product recommendations, search ranking, and ad targeting systems.
  • • Operate hands-on with taxonomy and ontology management tools such as Graphite, PoolParty, or Graphologi to configure, validate, and deploy classification systems at scale.
  • • Use data from multiple sources to assess catalog quality, identify trends, and inform taxonomy improvements—leveraging SQL, BI tools, or AI-assisted analysis as needed.
  • • Translate business requirements from regional teams into globally consistent taxonomy rules while accommodating local market nuances and regulatory requirements.
  • • Contribute to strategic initiatives that expand merchant catalog coverage, improve search relevance, and drive growth in New Verticals through enhanced product classification.
  • • Work directly with operational teams to ground-truth taxonomy logic by observing real-world merchant and customer interactions in stores and delivery environments.
  • • Document taxonomy rules, governance workflows, and change management procedures to ensure transparency, auditability, and long-term maintainability of classification systems.
  • • Stay current with evolving standards in information architecture, semantic web technologies, and AI-driven classification to continuously improve taxonomy accuracy and scalability.
  • • Serve as the primary taxonomy authority for the Global New Verticals Catalog team, providing guidance and training to product and operations teams on correct classification practices.
  • • Drive adoption of standardized taxonomies across merchant onboarding, catalog enrichment, and data ingestion pipelines to reduce manual correction and improve automation rates.
  • • Measure taxonomy performance through key metrics such as catalog coverage, search success rate, and classification error rates, and iterate based on data-driven insights.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 5+ years of experience in developing complex taxonomies, ontologies, or structured classification systems in real-world applications
  • • Experience with taxonomy or ontology management tools such as Graphite, PoolParty, or Graphologi
  • • Masters Degree in Library and Information Science, Linguistics, Philosophy, or a related field
  • • Proven ability to design taxonomies that support navigation, search, discovery, and analytics at scale
  • • Strong analytical skills with experience working with data across multiple sources and communicating findings clearly
  • • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Operations teams
