- • Deepgram is at the forefront of the rapidly expanding Voice AI economy, a market poised to reach trillions of dollars. We provide cutting-edge, real-time APIs for speech-to-text (STT) and text-to-speech (TTS), enabling the creation of production-grade voice agents at an unprecedented scale. Our platform is the engine behind the voice offerings of over 1,300 organizations and more than 200,000 developers worldwide, powering solutions for industry leaders like Twilio, Cloudflare, Sierra, Decagon, Vapi, Daily, Cresta, Granola, and Jack in the Box. Deepgram's proprietary voice-native foundation models deliver unparalleled accuracy, minimal latency, and exceptional cost efficiency, accessible via cloud APIs or as self-hosted and on-premises software. With a recent Series C funding round led by top global investors and strategic partners, we have processed over 50,000 years of audio and transcribed more than 1 trillion words, solidifying our position as the undisputed leader in voice technology understanding.
- • At Deepgram, we embrace an AI-first operating rhythm. Proficiency and comfort with AI tools are not just encouraged but are fundamental to how we innovate, operate, and measure success. Every team member is expected to actively utilize and experiment with advanced AI tools, integrating them into their daily workflows and even developing custom AI solutions to enhance productivity and outcomes. Performance is evaluated based on the effective application of AI to achieve results, making consistent and creative use of the latest AI capabilities a key driver of success. Candidates must be adept at rapidly adopting new models and methodologies, seamlessly integrating AI into their work, and continuously pushing the boundaries of what AI can accomplish.
- • We operate at the dynamic pace of AI evolution, meaning the nature of your day-to-day work will be fluid and adaptable. This role is ideal for individuals who are energized by experimentation, quick adaptation, agile thinking, and continuous learning. It may not be the best fit for those seeking a highly prescriptive environment or a traditional, static 9-to-5 schedule.
- • The Opportunity: Deepgram is seeking a visionary Engineering Manager to spearhead the design and implementation of our internal data and ML training systems. This pivotal role involves leading a team of talented engineers dedicated to building the core components of a data flywheel that drives fundamental product quality. You will also oversee the development of a system for large-scale, distributed ML training on a High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster. Your ability to forge strong partnerships with leaders and individual contributors across Research and DataOps, while guiding your engineering team to build, maintain, and enhance mission-critical systems, will be instrumental in maintaining and expanding Deepgram’s competitive edge. You will serve as a key influencer within Deepgram’s DataOps, Research, and Engineering departments, driving high-impact products from conception through to successful deployment.
- • What You’ll Do:
- • Lead the recruitment, hiring, training, and ongoing support of top-tier engineering talent, cultivating a world-class team.
- • Translate cross-functional strategic visions into meticulously detailed project plans, ensuring absolute clarity on commitments, potential risks, and project timelines for all stakeholders.
- • Architect and own the technical strategy that will significantly accelerate Deepgram’s machine learning training pipelines.
- • Foster and champion a robust team engineering culture, emphasizing rigorous engineering standards, best practices, and a commitment to continuous improvement in team processes and methodologies.
- • Collaborate closely with DataOps and Research teams to conceptualize, design, and implement new services, features, and/or end-to-end products.
- • Provide dedicated coaching and mentorship to engineers, fostering their personal and professional growth while ensuring the achievement of ambitious team objectives.
- • You’ll Love This Role If You:
- • Excel in a fast-paced, impact-driven environment where acquiring new skills on the fly is not just encouraged but a regular and essential part of the job.
- • Enjoy the strategic challenge of balancing product and feature maturity, making informed decisions on when to implement minimally invasive changes versus when to undertake detailed design work.
- • View management as a profound opportunity to empower a team, enabling them to tackle significant challenges through your own resilience, continuous learning, and empathetic leadership.
