- • Embed directly with OpenAI’s most strategic public sector customers to implement and maintain robust security controls for novel AI applications.
- • Serve as a design and technical thought partner by applying security expertise to protective controls including access controls, authentication, encryption, network security, and system security.
- • Collaborate closely with engineering teams, cross-functional stakeholders, customers, and service providers to achieve security and compliance objectives across deployments.
- • Ensure continuity of critical security and monitoring controls through routine security assessments, threat monitoring, and security validation exercises.
- • Work on-site at customer locations and within OpenAI’s Washington, DC office to support deployments from design through production and ongoing operations.
- • Travel regularly to customer sites to provide hands-on security engineering support and conduct in-person security reviews.
- • Leverage deep knowledge of modern adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to anticipate and mitigate threats to AI infrastructure and data.
- • Design and validate secure infrastructure using cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Kubernetes and Terraform.
- • Apply programming proficiency in Python, Golang, or similar languages to automate security controls, conduct code reviews, and build security tooling.
- • Conduct and support security operations including insider threat monitoring, network and endpoint detection and response (NDR/EDR), and red team or penetration testing activities.
- • Maintain a strong security culture by enabling researchers and engineers with practical, impactful security guidance tailored to high-impact AI systems.
- • Operate in dynamic, ambiguous environments with the ability to prioritize for impact and adapt quickly to evolving security requirements.
- • Support OpenAI’s mission by ensuring the safety and integrity of AI technologies deployed in sensitive public sector environments.
🎯 Requirements
- • An active US security clearance
- • 5+ years of security engineering experience with emphasis on infrastructure, application, network, datacenter, and systems security
- • Familiarity with cloud deployment models (AWS, Azure) and infrastructure primitives (Kubernetes, Terraform)
- • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang, or similar
- • Proven track record of developing high-quality, scalable, and secure infrastructure
- • Experience with security operations including insider threat monitoring, NDR/EDR, red teaming, or penetration testing
