- • Design, develop, and maintain global taxonomies and ontologies for grocery, alcoholic beverages, apparel, and other New Verticals categories across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo.
- • Build and govern metadata schemas and attribute systems that power product categorization, search, and discovery across all three marketplaces.
- • Define and standardize entity relationships and hierarchical structures to ensure consistency and scalability in catalog data across international markets.
- • Identify and resolve gaps in catalog quality, completeness, and discoverability by analyzing consumer behavior, merchant offerings, and regional market nuances.
- • Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Strategy & Operations, and regional teams to operationalize taxonomy solutions that align with business objectives and consumer needs.
- • Evolve existing taxonomy frameworks to unify structures across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo, enabling cross-platform consistency and efficient product scaling.
- • Apply best practices in hierarchy design, attribute standardization, and relationship modeling to enhance search relevance, recommendation accuracy, and merchandising effectiveness.
- • Collaborate with Machine Learning teams to ensure taxonomy outputs feed accurately into AI/ML models for product classification, personalization, and dynamic pricing.
- • Conduct ongoing audits of catalog data to validate taxonomy integrity and recommend improvements based on real-world usage patterns and performance metrics.
- • Drive governance protocols for taxonomy updates, including change management, version control, and stakeholder alignment across global teams.
- • Translate complex business requirements into structured classification systems that support both merchant onboarding and customer shopping experiences.
- • Leverage data from multiple sources (SQL, BI tools, AI-assisted analysis) to validate taxonomy effectiveness, quantify impact, and inform iterative enhancements.
- • Work hands-on with taxonomy management platforms such as Graphite, PoolParty, or Graphologi to implement, test, and refine classification systems.
- • Operate at both strategic and granular levels—conceptualizing global taxonomy roadmaps while also resolving low-level data inconsistencies in product attributes.
- • Contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at expanding merchant catalogs, improving customer discovery, and strengthening the three-sided marketplace (Merchants, Dashers, Customers) while preparing for the fourth side (Advertisers).
- • Ensure taxonomy designs are culturally and linguistically appropriate for local markets while maintaining global structural coherence.
- • Champion continuous improvement in catalog excellence by embedding user feedback, market trends, and competitive insights into taxonomy evolution.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of experience in developing complex taxonomies, ontologies, or structured classification systems in real-world applications
- • Experience with taxonomy or ontology management tools (e.g., Graphite, PoolParty, Graphologi)
- • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science, Linguistics, Philosophy, or a related field
- • Proven ability to work with data across multiple sources, ask analytical questions, and communicate findings clearly using tools such as SQL or BI platforms
- • Strong understanding of global e-commerce catalog challenges across diverse international markets
- • Experience designing taxonomies that support navigation, search, discovery, and analytics at scale
