đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Lead Engineer for Engineering Productivity at Neara Inc., you will serve as a force multiplier for software and machine learning engineers by modernizing development workflows, reducing friction in the software lifecycle, and enabling faster, safer, and more reliable releases at scale. Your work directly impacts the company’s ability to innovate on physics-enabled digital twins of electricity grids, supporting global utilities in building resilient energy infrastructure.
  • • You will lead the architecture and evolution of Neara’s inner and outer developer loops, including build orchestration, dependency management, and large monorepo workflows, to support rapid iteration and scalability. This involves designing and implementing modern CI/CD pipelines, improving developer experience through tooling and automation, and embedding security and reliability into every stage of the development lifecycle.
  • • You will drive the adoption of AI-enabled productivity tools and techniques, partnering with engineering and product leadership to define a long-term technical strategy that leverages machine learning to accelerate tasks such as code generation, test optimization, and incident prediction.
  • • By creating a measurement-driven culture, you will use deep systems expertise, profiling, tracing, and debugging to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure and tooling challenges, turning ambiguous problems into actionable insights that improve system performance and engineer satisfaction.
  • • You will lead cross-team initiatives to reduce systemic risks in the development lifecycle, collaborate with product management and senior stakeholders to align engineering productivity goals with business objectives, and mentor engineers to grow their expertise in platform engineering, DevOps practices, and scalable system design.
  • • Neara’s engineering team is a mission-driven collective of experts passionate about applying AI and machine learning to real-world challenges in energy resilience. You will join a culture that values ownership, continuous learning, and innovation, where your contributions will be recognized and amplified across the organization.
  • • In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape the foundation of Neara’s engineering scalability, leaving a lasting impact on how software is built, tested, and delivered. You will grow as a technical leader by influencing strategy without direct authority, mentoring peers, and solving high-impact problems that affect hundreds of engineers across multiple geographies.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Proven track record of building and operating large-scale, production-grade systems, with deep expertise in systems programming, infrastructure platforms, or developer tooling.
  • • Experience designing infrastructure or internal platforms as products, with strong empathy for developer workflows and usability, including modern build systems like Bazel, Gradle, or Cargo, and proficiency in dependency modeling, incremental builds, caching, and remote execution.
  • • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, high-impact technical initiatives spanning multiple teams, drive alignment without direct authority, and make sound architectural decisions in ambiguous environments.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive salary & meaningful ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan)
  • • Fully flexible working arrangements with access to a well-stocked office in Redfern, Sydney
  • • Regular office events fostering connection and culture
  • • The opportunity to work on a genuinely complex, innovative, and industry-leading product that makes a tangible difference in global energy resilience
