  • • Design, develop, and maintain global taxonomies and ontologies for product categories and brands across grocery, alcoholic beverages, apparel, and other new verticals on DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo platforms.
  • • Build and govern metadata schemas and attribute systems that support search, discovery, navigation, and analytics at scale across international markets.
  • • Define and standardize entity relationships within a global ontology platform to ensure consistency and accuracy in merchant catalog data.
  • • Identify and resolve gaps in catalog quality, completeness, and discoverability by analyzing consumer behavior, merchant offerings, and regional market nuances.
  • • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, and regional teams to operationalize taxonomy solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • • Evolve and unify taxonomy structures across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo to create cohesive, scalable catalog systems that support a unified global platform.
  • • Apply best practices in hierarchy design, attribute standardization, and relationship modeling to improve product classification and consumer experience.
  • • Work directly with real-world catalog data to inform taxonomy decisions, including hands-on review of merchant listings and consumer search patterns.
  • • Lead initiatives to enhance merchant catalogs by improving categorization accuracy, reducing ambiguity, and increasing product discoverability.
  • • Leverage taxonomy and ontology management tools (e.g., Graphite, PoolParty, Graphologi) to implement and maintain structured classification systems.
  • • Use data from multiple sources (e.g., SQL, BI tools, AI-assisted analysis) to validate taxonomy effectiveness, measure catalog performance, and drive iterative improvements.
  • • Contribute to strategic programs that expand the platform beyond food delivery into retail, convenience, and alcohol delivery by building robust foundational data structures.
  • • Translate complex business requirements into technical taxonomy specifications that support machine learning models, recommendation engines, and search algorithms.
  • • Ensure taxonomy governance includes clear ownership, version control, and change management processes across global teams.
  • • Support the growth of the platform’s fourth side—Advertisers—by enabling precise product targeting through accurate metadata and categorization.
  • • Maintain deep alignment between local market realities and global taxonomy frameworks to ensure cultural and linguistic relevance in product classification.
  • • Communicate taxonomy changes and their impact clearly to non-technical stakeholders through data-driven insights and visualizations.
  • • Drive innovation by challenging existing classification norms and proposing first-principles solutions to evolving catalog challenges.
  • • Participate in end-to-end product development cycles, from requirement gathering to deployment, ensuring taxonomy integrity at every stage.
  • • Stay current with industry trends in metadata standards, ontology design, and AI-enhanced classification to continuously improve system capabilities.
  • • Train and support regional teams on taxonomy usage, data entry standards, and catalog quality processes to ensure global consistency.
  • • Scale taxonomy systems to handle millions of products across diverse categories and geographies without compromising accuracy or performance.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 5+ years of experience in developing complex taxonomies, ontologies, or structured classification systems in real-world applications
  • • Experience with taxonomy or ontology management tools such as Graphite, PoolParty, or Graphologi
  • • Completed a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science, Linguistics, Philosophy, or a related field
  • • Demonstrated ability to work with data across multiple sources using tools such as SQL, BI tools, or AI-assisted analysis
  • • Proven track record of designing taxonomies that support navigation, search, discovery, and analytics at scale
  • • Strong operational mindset with ability to work at granular detail while maintaining strategic vision
