- • The Network Engineering Manager provides operational leadership, oversight, and technical expertise for the modernized network design and implementation to support IT modernization for multiple Air Force and Space Force bases globally, playing a critical role in ensuring secure, reliable, and mission-critical network infrastructure for defense operations.
- • This role is essential for driving enterprise IT projects in a DoD environment, directly contributing to national defense capabilities by managing technical resources, coordinating with government stakeholders, and ensuring timely delivery of network solutions across global military installations.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include supporting technical planning with the chief architect and implementation manager to align survey, design, and implementation phases; developing and allocating technical network engineering teams for remote, home office, or on-site work; managing procurement of network materials for testing in the Network Integration Lab (NIL) or shipment to sites.
- • The manager coordinates with Government Points of Contact (POCs) to secure base access, clearances, escorts, personnel, and equipment to ensure project timelines are met; provides human and material resource inputs to financial teams for estimate at completion and budget forecasting.
- • Acts as the primary network engineering liaison by assisting the project manager in maintaining clear, consistent, timely, and accurate communications with internal and external stakeholders; attends customer meetings and interfaces with vendors, other agencies, and client staff.
- • Provides technical input into network design and recommendations for program and operations teams; develops technical project plans, proposals, reports, and task order documentation; conducts planning and workload recommendations; participates in risk tracking processes.
- • Supervises assigned staff, including subordinate supervisors and managers, potentially overseeing NIL Management; ensures quality assurance of project deliverables; maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies; reviews project requirements and develops strategies for future work.
- • Participates in special projects as required; coordinates development of deliverables and products; provides technical, administrative, and operational management of projects including contract and subcontractor oversight.
- • The team operates within GDIT’s IT Infrastructure and Operations job family, supporting mission-critical IT modernization efforts for the U.S. Air Force and Space Force, leveraging GDIT’s global expertise in digital modernization, cloud, cyber, and AI/ML to deliver secure, innovative solutions.
- • In this role, the individual will develop advanced leadership and technical expertise in DoD network engineering, gain experience managing complex, multi-site defense infrastructure projects, and strengthen skills in stakeholder coordination, financial planning, and technical execution within a highly regulated government environment.
- • The position offers the opportunity to grow into broader program management or enterprise architecture roles within GDIT’s federal technology portfolio, while contributing directly to national security outcomes through cutting-edge network modernization initiatives.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent years of experience in lieu of degree
- • 8+ years of experience managing enterprise IT projects in a DoD environment
- • Thorough understanding of wired, wireless, and general IT functions; ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, documents, and governmental regulations
- • Strong coordination, organizational, written, and oral communication skills; ability to work effectively in virtual teaming environments
- • DoD Secret Level Clearance required; Security+ CE or DoD 8140 equivalent certification required; US Citizenship required
