Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Be the first line of defense for Shift4’s global payments infrastructure. As a Junior Network Operations Centre (NOC) Engineer you will monitor, triage, and resolve incidents affecting the systems that process billions of transactions every year for restaurants, hotels, stadiums, and e-commerce giants.
- • Work within a tight-knit, 24×7 team that follows a day-day-off-off-night-night-rest-rest rotation. You will own real-time dashboards, respond to alerts within SLA, and escalate only when necessary—keeping Shift4’s promise of “uptime all the time.”
- • Master our proprietary monitoring stack and industry-standard tools (Nagios, Grafana, Prometheus, SolarWinds) to detect anomalies in transaction flow, network latency, and server health. You will learn to read payment-gateway logs like a second language.
- • Provide white-glove technical support to merchants and internal stakeholders via phone, chat, and ticketing systems. You will be the calm voice that guides a frantic restaurant manager through a terminal reboot at 2 a.m. on game day.
- • Execute routine maintenance windows, patch deployments, and configuration changes under the guidance of senior engineers. Every change you make is tracked, peer-reviewed, and reversible—protecting the integrity of a platform that never sleeps.
- • Contribute to the NOC knowledge base by documenting new runbooks, updating RCA reports, and sharing lessons learned in weekly retros. Your notes will become the playbook that prevents the next outage.
- • Participate in an on-call emergency roster (approximately one week in eight). When the pager fires, you will VPN in, assess impact, and coordinate with engineering, DevOps, and third-party vendors until the incident is closed.
- • Grow into a subject-matter expert on payment protocols (EMV, ISO 8583, PCI-DSS), cloud networking (AWS VPC, Azure VNet), and secure tunneling (IPSec, TLS). Shift4 will fund certifications and provide lab environments for you to break things—safely.
- • Collaborate with teams in Malta, the United States, and beyond. Your shift hand-off notes will travel across time zones, ensuring seamless continuity for customers on every continent.
- • Champion a culture of continuous improvement. Whether you are automating a manual check or suggesting a dashboard tweak, your ideas will be heard and often implemented within days.
- • Enjoy the visibility that comes with protecting revenue. When you stop a fraud spike or shave milliseconds off authorization times, the impact is measured in real money and celebrated company-wide.
🎯 Requirements
- • 0-2 years in a technical support, helpdesk, or NOC environment with demonstrable exposure to Linux/Windows servers and basic networking concepts
- • Familiarity with ticketing systems (Jira, ServiceNow, or similar) and a methodical approach to incident documentation
- • Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays; reliable high-speed internet and a quiet, secure home office
- • Nice-to-have: foundational certification such as CompTIA Network+, Linux Essentials, or AWS Cloud Practitioner
- • Nice-to-have: scripting experience in Bash, Python, or PowerShell to automate repetitive tasks
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive starting salary of €20,000–€22,000 plus performance bonus and on-call allowance
- • Fully remote role with optional hybrid access to a modern Valletta office, free parking, and preferential home-loan rates
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and life insurance plus company-funded pension plan (APS) from day one
- • Mental Health Program, family-friendly policies, free breakfast in the office canteen, and regular team events
