Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Project Engineer at Dandelion Inc., you will play a critical role in advancing the company’s mission to make geothermal energy the default choice for residential heating and cooling in the U.S. by designing high-performance, reliable, and cost-effective geothermal systems that directly contribute to reducing carbon emissions and energy costs for homeowners nationwide.
- • Your work will bridge technical design and real-world implementation, ensuring that every geothermal system is engineered for optimal efficiency, longevity, and ease of installation — supporting Dandelion’s goal of scaling clean energy solutions through partnerships with major homebuilders.
- • Day to day, you will prepare detailed construction shop drawings for geothermal system installations, including precise piping layouts, borehole configurations, and equipment placement using AutoCAD, ensuring all designs meet structural, thermal, and regulatory requirements.
- • You will develop and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) for each project, optimizing selections for cost, availability, and performance while coordinating with procurement and installation teams to prevent delays or rework.
- • Performing head loss calculations for ground loop circuits will be a core responsibility, enabling you to size pumps correctly, ensure proper flow rates, and maximize system efficiency across vertical, horizontal, and pond/lake loop configurations.
- • You will design ground loop heat exchangers by determining optimal borehole depths, loop lengths, and pipe materials, integrating site-specific soil thermal conductivity data and local climate conditions to tailor each system to its environment.
- • Collaboration is key: you will work closely with sales, project management, and installation teams to refine designs based on field surveys, customer constraints, and local codes, translating technical specifications into actionable plans that minimize installation challenges.
- • Regular site visits will allow you to conduct quality checks during installation phases, verify adherence to design intent, and provide real-time troubleshooting support to internal crews and external contractors.
- • You will continuously review and iterate designs to reduce complexity, improve serviceability, and enhance long-term system performance, contributing to Dandelion’s reputation for industry-leading reliability.
- • Staying current with evolving industry standards such as IGSHPA and ASHRAE will be essential, and you will actively contribute to improving internal design tools, CAD templates, and engineering processes to increase team efficiency and consistency.
- • The Engineering team at Dandelion is a multidisciplinary, mission-driven group united by a passion for sustainable energy innovation, combining expertise in HVAC, geothermal drilling, software, finance, and behavioral science to scale clean heating and cooling solutions across the U.S.
- • Reporting to a Sr. Geothermal Engineer, you will operate in a collaborative, fast-paced, and inclusive environment where ownership, curiosity, and cross-functional teamwork are valued, and your contributions will directly influence how thousands of homes are powered for decades.
- • This role offers significant professional growth: you will deepen your expertise in renewable energy systems, gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge geothermal design software, and develop leadership skills in technical coordination and project execution — positioning you as a specialist in one of the fastest-growing sectors of the clean energy economy.
- • You will have the opportunity to contribute to internal process improvements and tool development, gaining experience in engineering operations and scalability that are highly valuable in mission-driven tech companies focused on hardware and infrastructure.
