Full Job Description

📋 Description

  • • Valon Technologies, Inc. is at the forefront of revolutionizing regulated finance with its AI-native operating system, starting with mortgage servicing. As a Series C company backed by a16z, Valon is tackling complex, often overlooked industries by building and operating its own mortgage servicing business. This hands-on approach has enabled the company to gain deep insights into the intricacies of the sector, transforming it from a low-margin operation to one with over 60% margins, while simultaneously enhancing customer experience. The success of this model is evidenced by major enterprise contracts now being adopted across the industry.
  • • The ValonOS platform is designed as a unified system, making every process structured and programmable, perfectly positioning it for the AI era. By channeling all operations through a single system with rich data, Valon enables AI agents to not just automate tasks but to continuously improve entire business operations. Mortgage servicing is merely the initial focus, with a broader vision to transform other regulated industries and beyond.
  • • This individual contributor role, Quality Assurance and Compliance Analyst, is pivotal, operating at the critical intersection of Compliance, client communication, and product quality. The core responsibility involves managing the intake and investigation of client-reported compliance issues. This includes meticulously analyzing the root cause of reported problems, collaborating closely with Product and Engineering teams to implement effective fixes, and developing robust regression test coverage, including the innovative use of AI-assisted test generation to proactively prevent recurring issues.
  • • This is a high-ownership position where the analyst will significantly influence how ValonOS addresses the stringent regulatory requirements faced by its enterprise clients. A key aspect of the role is translating complex mortgage servicing regulations into precise product requirements and establishing scalable compliance programs that effectively support both Valon's internal servicing operations and its expanding software business. The role demands operating at the nexus of cutting-edge technology and stringent regulation within one of the world's most complex industries.
  • • The scope of work encompasses a broad range of activities, including in-depth regulatory analysis, providing expert product compliance guidance, offering client-facing compliance support, and contributing to cross-functional strategy development. Success in this role requires a delicate balance between profound regulatory expertise and pragmatic product thinking. It's not just about understanding regulatory mandates but about architecting processes and systems that ensure compliance is both efficient and reliably integrated into the business operations.
  • • Key responsibilities include managing a structured issue intake and triage workflow, from initial client reports through scoping, impact analysis, root cause analysis (RCA), developing fix plans, validation, and final closure. This involves maintaining clear and consistent communication with clients, acknowledging issues, gathering necessary details, providing timely status updates, explaining the impact and resolution timelines, and meticulously documenting all outcomes.
  • • The analyst will be responsible for investigating reported issues by examining system artifacts such as configuration details, logs, event history, screenshots, and data exports to accurately determine the nature of the issue – whether it stems from product behavior, configuration errors, user misuse, or a simple misunderstanding.
  • • Performing thorough impact analyses is crucial, identifying all affected parties and systems, assessing severity, defining the relevant timeframe, and understanding any downstream reporting or operational implications for the client.
  • • The role requires producing concise internal documentation detailing the problem statement, reproduction steps, supporting evidence, hypotheses, identified root causes, a decision log, and recommended remediation strategies.
  • • Findings must be translated into actionable product requirements and work items for the Product and Engineering teams, including well-defined acceptance criteria, consideration of edge cases, and critical risk notes.
  • • Coordination of fix delivery with various cross-functional stakeholders, including Product, Engineering, Support/Customer Success, and Compliance leadership, is essential to maintain high levels of clarity and minimize cycle times.
  • • Designing comprehensive test plans and generating test evidence for fixes, including before-and-after proof, scenario coverage, and detailed regression checklists, is a key deliverable.
  • • A significant part of the role involves expanding automated regression coverage over time through API tests, scripted tests, and data-driven test cases, leveraging AI-assisted test generation to identify potential edge cases and synthetic scenarios responsibly.
  • • Tracking trends in reported issues, such as recurrence patterns, common root causes, and time-to-close metrics, will inform recommendations for targeted quality improvements aimed at reducing repeat issue volumes.
  • • In the realm of Change Management, the analyst will stay informed about new and updated mortgage servicing regulations from federal, state, and investor/GSE sources, maintaining an internal change log with effective dates and key obligations.
  • • Triage potential regulatory changes as they emerge, assessing their applicability across product areas and client segments, identifying urgency, and escalating ambiguous interpretations for resolution.
  • • Conducting structured impact analyses for each relevant regulatory change, covering workflow impacts, data and reporting implications, operational dependencies, client configuration considerations, and residual risks.
  • • Partnering with Product and Engineering to translate regulatory changes into clear requirements, scope options, and pragmatic change plans, including milestones, owners, testing approaches, and timelines.
  • • Aligning cross-functional stakeholders, including Compliance leadership, Support/CS, and Operations, on plans, decision logs, and client commitments, while proactively surfacing tradeoffs and risks.
  • • Creating client-facing change communications that are accurate, easy to understand, and cover what is changing, who is impacted, effective dates, client actions required, and where to find documentation.
  • • Coordinating execution follow-through, tracking implementation progress, validating delivered behavior against requirements, and ensuring appropriate test evidence and release notes are produced.
  • • Monitoring post-release outcomes, including client feedback, defects, edge cases, and reporting accuracy, and driving necessary follow-up fixes or documentation updates.
  • • Communicating implementation status and completion to clients, including details on phased rollouts, configuration steps, and confirmation of readiness before effective dates.
  • • Maintaining ongoing readiness artifacts, such as updated internal guidance, client documentation, and a record of communications and decisions for auditability.
