- • Senior Backend Software Engineer at Novellia, Inc. – Build the infrastructure that empowers patients to access and unlock nearly a decade of their personal health data in under 30 seconds, enabling life-changing insights for millions and accelerating biopharma innovation through patient-powered real-world data.
- • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and data pipelines that process large volumes of healthcare data efficiently, integrating AI components like LLMs to power intelligent features while ensuring reliability, observability, and high-quality delivery across the full software lifecycle.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with frontend, data, AI, product, and design teams to translate complex requirements into technical specifications and deliver seamless, data-rich user experiences that support evidence generation, regulatory submissions, and market access for top pharmaceutical partners.
- • Take ownership of end-to-end feature development from conception to deployment and maintenance, implementing best practices in coding, testing, observability (monitoring, logging, alerting, autoscaling), and system design to ensure robust, secure, and performant services in a fast-growing, mission-driven startup environment.
- • Contribute to building an engineering team from the ground up, staying current with emerging backend technologies, AI tools, and healthcare interoperability standards (e.g., FHIR), while helping shape Novellia’s technical culture and scalability as the company grows 5x YoY with tier-1 investor backing and leading scientific publications.
- • Grow technically and professionally by tackling high-impact challenges at the intersection of healthcare, AI, and distributed systems, gaining deep experience in modern cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), microservices, message queues, vector databases, and RAG systems while making tangible contributions to a product that improves real-world health outcomes.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent field
- • 5+ years of experience in backend development with proven expertise in building scalable, distributed systems
- • Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Node.js, Java)
- • Solid understanding of RESTful API design and microservices architectures
- • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and relational databases
- • Experience implementing observability practices including monitoring, logging, alerting, and autoscaling
- • Strong system design, problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills
- • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a startup environment
- • Passion for product development, ownership, and following software development best practices
