  • • Nielsen is seeking a highly skilled and business-oriented Senior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic Legal Department, specifically within the Product & Digital Support team. This pivotal role will focus on supporting Nielsen's Audience Measurement business, playing a crucial part in the company's innovative product development and deployment initiatives. You will be instrumental in guiding our product, engineering, and data science teams through the complex landscape of contractual, regulatory, privacy, and other legal risks inherent in the rapidly evolving digital media space.
  • • As a Senior Counsel, you will be at the forefront of advising product-related teams, ensuring that our cutting-edge solutions are legally sound and strategically aligned. Your responsibilities will extend to drafting and negotiating a wide array of critical agreements, including those related to product development, strategic alliances, supplier relationships, and commercial sales. These agreements will encompass complex areas such as data and information, licensing, technology, the burgeoning field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and market research, positioning you at the nexus of innovation in the media industry.

  • • Key responsibilities include:
  • • Providing comprehensive legal support for product development, distribution, and sales initiatives. This involves a deep understanding and ability to translate complex legal, business, and technical concepts into practical, business-oriented opinions on legal risks, ensuring that all contractual terms are appropriate and protective.
  • • Proactively assessing product features, functionalities, and designs, as well as data processing proposals and other product-related initiatives. Your goal will be to identify potential legal issues before they arise, safeguard intellectual property rights, meticulously evaluate issues related to the use of AI, and ensure strict compliance with all contractual commitments and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • • Drafting, meticulously reviewing, and effectively negotiating a diverse range of commercial contracts. This includes, but is not limited to, data supplier and integration agreements, inbound and outbound licensing agreements, technology services agreements, strategic alliance agreements, and critical supplier agreements.
  • • Collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, including product managers, engineers, data scientists, and business development teams, to understand their objectives and provide actionable legal counsel.
  • • Staying abreast of the latest legal and regulatory developments impacting the digital media, advertising technology, and data analytics industries, particularly concerning privacy, AI, and intellectual property.
  • • Managing and mitigating legal risks associated with new product launches and the adoption of new technologies.
  • • Contributing to the development and refinement of legal templates, playbooks, and best practices for product and digital initiatives.
  • • Engaging with external parties, such as counterparties, regulators, and industry groups, as needed, to advance Nielsen's business objectives.
  • • Ensuring that Nielsen's products and services comply with global data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and other relevant regulations.
  • • Advising on the legal implications of data acquisition, usage, and monetization strategies.
  • • Supporting the negotiation and finalization of agreements with key partners, including networks, streaming services, digital social media companies, data suppliers, and service equipment providers.
  • • Acting as a trusted advisor to business teams, providing clear, concise, and timely legal guidance.
  • • Contributing to a culture of compliance and ethical conduct throughout the organization.
  • • This role offers the flexibility of working remotely or from our New York, New York office.
