Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the entire pre-sales technical lifecycle for MariaDB’s most strategic prospects and customers, translating complex business requirements into elegant, scalable database solutions that power billions of daily transactions.
- • Serve as the primary technical authority in the room—running discovery workshops, white-boarding architectures, and delivering tailored demos that showcase how MariaDB’s distributed SQL, columnar analytics, and HTAP capabilities outperform legacy and cloud-native alternatives.
- • Architect proof-of-concepts that run on-premises, in hybrid clouds, and across multi-region Kubernetes clusters, ensuring security, compliance, and sub-second latency SLAs for Fortune 500 enterprises and high-growth start-ups alike.
- • Partner directly with Sales Directors to craft ROI models and migration roadmaps that de-risk large-scale replatforming projects, turning skeptics into champions and accelerating deal velocity from pilot to production.
- • Build reusable Terraform modules, Ansible playbooks, and Helm charts that let prospects deploy a fully configured MariaDB cluster in under 15 minutes—then teach their teams how to extend and maintain them.
- • Deliver hands-on enablement sessions for customer architects, SREs, and developers, covering everything from query optimization and schema design to zero-downtime upgrades and automated failover testing.
- • Influence the product roadmap by distilling field feedback into actionable user stories, working side-by-side with Engineering, Product Marketing, and Support to prioritize features that close competitive gaps and open new markets.
- • Act as the escalation point for post-sales technical issues during the critical first 90 days of deployment, ensuring customers achieve the performance, availability, and cost savings promised during the sales cycle.
- • Represent MariaDB at global conferences, webinars, and meetups, sharing real-world success stories that inspire developers to build the next generation of mission-critical applications on open-source technology.
- • Mentor junior Solutions Engineers and Solution Architects, codifying best practices in internal wikis, runbooks, and certification programs that scale the team’s collective expertise across regions and verticals.
- • Continuously monitor emerging trends—serverless databases, confidential computing, edge caching, AI-driven indexing—and prototype integrations that keep MariaDB at the forefront of modern application development.
- • Collaborate with Customer Success and Professional Services to design health checks, capacity-planning exercises, and disaster-recovery drills that turn one-time deployments into decade-long partnerships.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years in a customer-facing technical role (Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer, or Professional Services) with deep expertise in relational databases, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure.
- • Hands-on proficiency with SQL performance tuning, schema design, and replication topologies; experience with MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar engines.
- • Demonstrated success delivering complex, enterprise-grade solutions on AWS, Azure, or GCP using Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi).
- • Strong scripting or programming skills in Python, Go, or Bash; familiarity with Kubernetes operators and containerized database workloads.
- • Excellent storytelling and presentation abilities—comfortable white-boarding in front of C-level executives and command-line debugging with senior engineers.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote-first culture with quarterly in-person summits in destinations chosen by the team.
- • Competitive salary plus uncapped commission tied to both bookings and customer adoption milestones.
- • Annual professional-development stipend of $3,500 for conferences, certifications, and advanced training.
- • Flexible PTO policy (minimum 20 days) and a “no meeting Friday” rule to protect deep-work time.
