- • The Sr. Manager, Fair Lending Analytics & Validation role is critical to ensuring Oportun’s models are fair, compliant, and aligned with regulatory expectations such as SR 11-7, directly supporting the company’s mission to provide affordable credit to underserved communities.
- • Day to day, the role involves leading fair lending analytics across credit decisioning, underwriting, marketing, and fraud prevention; performing statistical analyses for disparate impact and bias; evaluating model features and outputs; conducting independent model validation; translating complex results into actionable insights for Risk, Legal, Compliance, and senior leadership; and partnering with model developers and stakeholders to support model approval and governance.

- • In this role, the individual will deepen expertise in model risk management, fair lending analytics, and AI/ML validation; strengthen stakeholder influence across Data Science, Technology, and Compliance; and contribute to Oportun’s model risk governance framework, including validation plans, model inventory, and risk ranking—positioning them as a trusted advisor in ethical AI and financial inclusion.
🎯 Requirements
- • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or related quantitative field
- • 5+ years of experience in fair lending analytics, model development, or model validation within financial services
- • 5+ years of practical quantitative programming experience with Python, SQL, Spark and/or Scala
- • 5+ years of experience leveraging machine learning methodologies such as GBM, XGBoost, and NLP
- • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and written skills
- • Good team player and willing to help and share
