📋 Description

• As a Staff Frontend Engineer at Medium, you will lead high‑impact frontend initiatives that shape the reader and writer web experiences.
• Day to day, you’ll design and implement scalable, performant React/TypeScript systems, remain hands‑on in the codebase, and drive cross‑team technical alignment.
• Medium is a fully remote publishing platform used by millions to read and write long‑form stories, focused on thoughtful ideas over fleeting attention.
• In this role, you can influence web architecture, mentor engineers, and raise frontend engineering standards across the company.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years building complex, scalable frontend systems (or 5+ with exceptional impact).
• Deep frontend fundamentals: rendering, state management, performance profiling, browser behavior, and testing strategy.
• Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript; experience with GraphQL, AWS, or experimentation frameworks is a plus.
• Track record of technical leadership, mentoring, and improving engineering practices across teams.
• Product‑minded with a strong sense for UX, polish, copy, and consistency.
• Comfortable making pragmatic tradeoffs, communicating decisions clearly, and solving ambiguous problems.
• Experience operating at scale (millions of users, CD, feature flags, A/B testing) preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to collaborate with designers and product leaders remotely.
