Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Staff IT Engineer at Ashby Inc., you will serve as a foundational technical leader in a rapidly growing IT function, directly enabling a world-class employee experience through secure, automated, and delightful technology solutions. This role is pivotal as Ashby scales from 320 employees and seeks to mature its IT operations beyond reactive support into a proactive, engineering-driven function that treats end-user enablement as a core systems challenge.
- • You will own and resolve complex end-user issues from initial report through root cause analysis and lasting resolution, whether through individual fixes or organization-wide technical projects. This includes designing and implementing automations across device management (Kandji, Crowdstrike), identity management (Okta, Google Workspace), hardware logistics, and user lifecycle processes to minimize manual touchpoints and elevate service quality through systems thinking.
- • You will advocate for and implement IT best practices that prioritize security, scalability, and user experience, helping to build a stateless internal backend using TypeScript services, pub/sub queues, and APIs that enable seamless data flow and business logic between systems. Your work will involve using Terraform and Git to codify infrastructure, ensuring critical systems are transparent, auditable, self-documenting, and auto-deployed.
- • You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including People and Support, balancing deep technical work with empathetic, human-centered support—recognizing that resolving technical issues often requires emotional intelligence, active listening, and genuine connection to deliver true user satisfaction.
- • You will help shape the culture and technical direction of a small, high-impact IT team by challenging norms, embracing innovation, and demonstrating both technical excellence and humility—bringing architectural insight while remaining open to feedback and prioritizing collective success over individual ego.
- • In this role, you will develop expertise in modern IT engineering at scale, gaining hands-on experience with API-driven automation, identity and access management (RBAC, birthright access), infrastructure as code, and enterprise SaaS platforms—all while contributing to a mission-driven startup that values psychological safety, inclusivity, and continuous learning.
🎯 Requirements
- • Demonstrated deep experience with IT systems including device management (e.g., Kandji, Jamf) and identity management (e.g., Okta, Azure AD, Google Workspace), with the ability to architect and automate integrations between them using APIs, middleware, or custom glue code.
- • Proven ability to design and implement scalable, testable, and auditable automation solutions—particularly using TypeScript, pub/sub architectures, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform—to reduce manual effort and increase system reliability.
- • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, with a track record of providing empathetic, user-focused support that combines technical resolution with active listening, reassurance, and human connection.
- • Experience or strong interest in contributing to a small, expert IT team that values radical efficiency, openness, and continuous improvement, including comfort with ambiguity and a drive to challenge legacy IT norms.
- • Familiarity with role-based access control (RBAC), birthright access models, and the associated people-data challenges, including experience defining and enforcing authentication rules aligned with organizational security policies.
- • A mindset that values systems thinking over platform-specific expertise—prioritizing deep understanding of how IT systems interconnect and can be optimized, rather than requiring prior experience with Ashby’s exact tool stack.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and equity package with a 10-year exercise window for stock options, allowing financial flexibility when exercising shares after departure.
- • Twelve weeks of fully paid family leave for U.S.-based employees, with plans to extend similar support internationally as circumstances allow.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance for U.S. employees, with 100% of premiums covered by Ashby for employees and dependents.
- • Generous annual budget for equipment, software, and office furniture to ensure a productive and comfortable remote work setup.
- • $100 monthly education stipend, with additional support for conferences or advanced learning opportunities upon manager approval.
