This is a pivotal role within our expanding legal team, offering a unique opportunity to work directly alongside our General Counsel and significantly contribute to the strategic direction and international growth of our company.
- • As a key member of our legal competence center, you will be instrumental in providing comprehensive legal support across a broad spectrum of activities. Your expertise will be crucial in shaping the legal framework that underpins our ambitious international expansion plans, ensuring compliance and mitigating risk as we scale.
- • This is a hands-on, broad, and impactful position designed for a highly motivated legal professional with a German qualification. You will be empowered to take significant ownership of your work, collaborating closely with the General Counsel, senior management, and diverse cross-functional teams including Product, Commercial, Tech, Finance, and People.
- • Your primary responsibilities will encompass acting as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert for senior management and various business units, delivering clear, pragmatic, and commercially astute legal counsel.
- • You will play a crucial role in driving strategic projects that are vital to re:cap’s ongoing success and its continued international expansion. This involves navigating complex legal landscapes and contributing to the development of robust legal strategies.
- • A significant part of your role will involve supporting and enhancing the company’s governance framework and managing ongoing compliance matters. This includes ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and best practices across all operational areas.
- • You will take the lead in efforts to reshape and elevate our contract and legal document management processes throughout the organization. This includes implementing best practices, potentially leveraging Legal Tech solutions, to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- • Furthermore, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating interactions with external legal counsels across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring seamless collaboration and cost-effective external support.
- • Your contribution will directly impact re:cap’s ability to operate efficiently, expand globally, and maintain the highest standards of legal and ethical conduct. You will be at the forefront of navigating the legal challenges and opportunities presented by the dynamic fintech landscape.
- • We are looking for an individual who is not only legally proficient but also possesses a strong commercial acumen, an analytical yet pragmatic approach, and a solution-oriented mindset. You should be adept at understanding the root causes of legal issues and skillfully balancing legal risk with the commercial needs of the business.
- • A genuine interest in fintech and the evolution of new financial products is highly desirable, as is a proactive approach to exploring and leveraging the opportunities presented by Legal Tech and state-of-the-art legal tools.
- • This role offers a clear development path, with a structured onboarding process designed to integrate you effectively into the team and the business. Within the first month, you will focus on understanding re:cap’s business model, organizational structure, and remote work setup, while also engaging with the underlying legal framework and providing initial support on legal issues.
- • Months two through four will see you gradually taking on more significant legal issues independently, with the support of the General Counsel, aiming to become a primary point of contact for various legal matters. This phase emphasizes a broad mix of legal consulting to prepare you for the generalist requirements of the role.
- • By the end of the sixth month, you are expected to be a recognized, trusted go-to person for legal questions, confidently handling legal issues independently while engaging in mutual coordination and professional sparring within the legal team. This marks the beginning of exploring medium and long-term development, potentially leading to specialized responsibility in specific areas of internal legal consulting.
- • This position is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment and is eager to make a tangible impact on a rapidly growing European leader in the fintech space.
🎯 Requirements
- • Fully qualified German lawyer with 3-6 years of professional legal experience, ideally combining 1-3 years at a reputable commercial law firm with 2-3 years of in-house experience at a start-up or tech company.
- • Commercial law all-rounder with strong experience in diverse contracts and cross-border matters, ideally within online business models (e.g., financial services or other regulated sectors).
- • Solid understanding of private company capital structures and the ability to quickly adapt to new legal areas as the business evolves.
- • Fluent in German and English (written and spoken).
- • Valid EU work permit and residency within the EU.
