  • • Join Axon Enterprise, Inc. and become a vital part of our mission to Protect Life. As a (Senior) Research Scientist, you will be instrumental in driving innovation within our AI team, with a specific focus on cutting-edge applications of Large Language Models (LLMs), Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), and Computer Vision (CV) across our cloud, device, and robotics ecosystems.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of state-of-the-art AI technologies, shaping the future of public safety and justice. You will be at the forefront of developing intelligent reasoning, perception, and understanding capabilities for multimodal data, directly impacting the effectiveness and efficiency of law enforcement and beyond.
  • • As a key member of our research and development efforts, you will be responsible for owning one or more critical technical areas within our LLM, MLLM, and CV product portfolio. This involves not only deep technical contribution but also providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior scientists, guiding them through the complex process of transitioning groundbreaking R&D concepts into tangible, impactful Axon product features.
  • • Your primary responsibilities will include conducting in-depth research into novel techniques in LLM, MLLMs, Generative AI (GenAI), and Computer Vision, applying these to diverse data sources from cloud, devices, and sensors. You will be tasked with designing and implementing efficient and scalable MLLM models specifically tailored for the inference and analysis of complex multimodal data.
  • • A significant part of your role will involve exploring and developing innovative approaches to tackle challenging problems in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Natural Language Understanding (NLU), Object Detection, Object Recognition, Object Tracking, Segmentation, and Scene Understanding. This requires a deep understanding of current AI limitations and a creative drive to push the boundaries of what's possible.
  • • Optimization is key in our environment. You will focus on optimizing AI models and algorithms for performance, memory footprint, and energy efficiency, ensuring they meet the stringent requirements of resource-constrained devices. This often involves close collaboration with Machine Learning Engineers (MLEs), firmware, or hardware engineers to leverage hardware accelerators and fine-tune algorithms for specific hardware architectures.
  • • Evaluating the performance of LLM, MLLM, and CV models using real-world datasets is crucial. You will design and execute rigorous experiments to validate their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. Staying abreast of the latest research trends and advancements in computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, MLLMs, and GenAI is paramount, and you will be expected to integrate relevant findings into our ongoing projects.
  • • To foster knowledge sharing and contribute to the broader scientific community, you will be encouraged to contribute to patent disclosures, academic publications, and technical documentation. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about pushing the envelope in AI research and development, and who thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
  • • The role requires a proactive approach to driving one or more phases of the ML development lifecycle, from shaping datasets and investigating modeling approaches to training, evaluating, and tuning models, and implementing end-to-end training pipelines. You will leverage state-of-the-art research to deliver high-quality models that enable multiple AI projects at scale.
  • • Contributing back to the research community through academic publications, technical blogs, open-source code, and participation in AI challenges is highly valued. This position is based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and follows a hybrid work schedule, emphasizing in-person collaboration while offering flexibility.
