đź“‹ Description

  • • Taara, born from Google's X 'Moonshot Factory,' is at the forefront of a global mission to connect billions of underserved individuals by revolutionizing internet access through advanced wireless optical communication and photonics chip technologies. We are dedicated to bridging the digital divide by delivering faster, cheaper, and more reliable connectivity solutions worldwide.
  • • As a Software Engineering Intern at Taara, you will immerse yourself in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with experts in optics, software, and hardware to tackle some of the most significant connectivity challenges on a global scale. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking projects that have the potential to reshape how billions of people access the internet.
  • • Your role will be pivotal in supporting high-impact initiatives aimed at enhancing the performance, deployment efficiency, and overall visibility of our extensive global network of optical terminals. You will not merely be a coder; you will be an innovator, actively involved in prototyping and de-risking the technical feasibility of critical features that seamlessly bridge the gap between sophisticated hardware at the network's edge and our centralized cloud-based control plane.
  • • You will have the invaluable opportunity to work hand-in-hand with seasoned engineers, contributing to the development of essential tools designed to streamline complex processes. This could involve creating intuitive software that simplifies intricate hardware installations and terminal alignment procedures, building high-fidelity emulators to bolster our Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and enable rigorous stress testing, or developing sophisticated dashboards that provide real-time visualization of global link performance metrics.
  • • This internship is exceptionally well-suited for a student who possesses a deep-seated curiosity and a passion for working at the fascinating intersection of the physical and digital realms, applying software solutions to real-world hardware challenges.
  • • **Interfacing with the Physical World:** A core aspect of your contribution will involve developing innovative software that intelligently integrates with mobile devices and various sensors, such as Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), Global Positioning System (GPS) modules, and cameras. The goal is to create user-friendly interfaces and automated processes that significantly simplify complex hardware installations and the precise alignment of optical terminals, making deployment more efficient and accessible.
  • • **Scaling Through Simulation:** You will play a key role in building and refining advanced emulators, such as the Lightbridge emulator. These simulations are crucial for creating virtual representations of our optical links, which in turn enables more robust and comprehensive CI/CD workflows and allows for extensive stress testing of our systems under various simulated conditions, ensuring reliability before deployment.
  • • **Driving Observability:** Your work will directly contribute to the enhancement of our internal visibility tools and interactive dashboards. Utilizing modern web technologies like React and TypeScript, you will help develop systems that provide clear, real-time visualization of global link Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and telemetry data, often displayed on an intuitive world map interface, offering immediate insights into network status.
  • • **Data & Control:** You will assist in the development and architecture of data collection systems designed to gather critical information from IMUs and control modules. This data is essential for accurately characterizing tracking performance, identifying areas for improvement, and informing the development of future control strategies to optimize network operations.
  • • **Iterate and Prototype:** A significant part of the role involves contributing clean, well-documented, and efficient prototype code. You will be encouraged to move rapidly from initial concept and "lab experiment" stages to potentially field-deployable solutions, embracing an agile and iterative development process that values quick learning and adaptation.
  • • This internship is more than just a learning experience; it's an opportunity to make a tangible impact on a technology with the potential to fundamentally alter global internet accessibility. You will gain invaluable hands-on experience, mentorship from leading engineers, and the chance to be part of a truly transformative project.
