• • In this role, you will be instrumental in dissecting and refining intricate SAP custom code, ensuring seamless transitions to S/4HANA and optimizing performance. You will work hands-on within both SAP ECC and S/4HANA environments, meticulously analyzing legacy ABAP programs, identifying and resolving incompatibilities, deprecated objects, and obsolete logic. A key aspect of your contribution will involve executing and interpreting Automated Custom Code Checks (ATC) and S/4 readiness assessments, translating their findings into actionable remediation plans.
• • Your responsibilities will extend to refactoring custom developments to align with HANA-optimized SQL and simplified data models, ensuring that the underlying data structures are efficient and future-proof. You will also be tasked with investigating and resolving critical runtime errors, short dumps, update failures, and Gateway inconsistencies, ensuring the stability and reliability of SAP systems. A significant part of the role involves redesigning WRICEF (Workflow, Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms, and Client-specific logic) components to reduce complexity, enhance maintainability, and improve overall system performance.
• • Performance optimization will be a continuous focus, achieved through detailed trace analysis, implementing effective indexing strategies, and re-architecting legacy reports using modern ABAP constructs such as CDS Views, AMDP, and the RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP). You will ensure that all extensibility patterns adhere to clean-core principles and are upgrade-safe, minimizing future technical debt and facilitating smoother upgrades.
• • A crucial element of this position involves preparing ECC systems for S/4HANA conversion by undertaking structured custom code adaptation. You will contribute to the transition to modern development paradigms like RAP, and where core modification is not feasible or advisable, you will implement side-by-side extensibility solutions using SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). Modernizing forms and output frameworks, including SAPscript, SmartForms, and Adobe Forms, will also be part of your remit. Furthermore, you will actively contribute to evolving transport, versioning, and Git-based development strategies, promoting best practices in code management and deployment.
• • Beyond code remediation, you will engage in integration engineering, designing and troubleshooting SAP integrations using a variety of technologies including IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, OData, and APIs. You will analyze trigger-based logic embedded in legacy programs and refactor it towards modern, event-driven patterns, supporting middleware-based integration scenarios and cross-platform orchestration. Ensuring data integrity and transactional consistency across complex enterprise landscapes will be paramount, as will monitoring and resolving integration bottlenecks that impact upstream or downstream systems.
• • This role uniquely integrates AI-augmented SAP engineering. You will leverage advanced AI tools to scan custom ABAP repositories, identifying risk indicators and uncovering remediation opportunities. This includes pinpointing hard-coded logic, implicit dependencies, and undocumented integration triggers. You will support the automated insertion of service calls and governance controls within custom logic, and collaborate closely with AI engineers to operationalize SAP observability and intelligent workflow automation. Your work will transform undocumented SAP systems into analyzable, structured technical assets, paving the way for more efficient and intelligent modernization.
• • As a senior technical contributor, you will be responsible for translating complex ABAP findings into structured remediation roadmaps, partnering with enterprise architects, AI engineers, and delivery teams to ensure safe and effective implementation. You will clearly communicate technical risk assessments and modernization strategies to stakeholders, and participate in customer-facing workshops and milestone-driven onsite engagements, acting as a trusted advisor.
• • Upholding reliability, governance, and engineering discipline is essential. You will deliver production-ready solutions in high-availability enterprise environments, maintaining auditability and traceability throughout all remediation efforts. Balancing modernization velocity with upgrade safety and compliance requirements will be a key challenge. You will also contribute to the development and enforcement of internal standards for ABAP code quality and modernization frameworks, ensuring consistency and excellence across projects.
