📋 Description

• • Own the end-to-end development of Matillion’s next-generation AI platform, Maia. You will design, train, fine-tune, and evaluate large-language and foundation models, pushing the boundaries of what GenAI can do in the data-productivity space.
• • Pioneer memory and context management systems that allow Maia to retain short- and long-term context across user sessions. You will build embedding pipelines, vector stores, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architectures that surface the right information at the right moment.
• • Integrate structured knowledge sources—knowledge graphs, ontologies, and metadata catalogs—into the AI stack to reduce hallucinations, improve reasoning, and maintain consistency across complex data workflows.
• • Architect multi-modal ingestion pipelines capable of handling text, audio, and other unstructured formats. You will design parsing, chunking, embedding, indexing, and retrieval strategies that scale to enterprise volumes while keeping latency low.
• • Optimise inference performance end-to-end: reduce token cost, shrink latency, and boost throughput through prompt engineering, model quantisation, caching, and distributed serving strategies. You will balance accuracy, speed, and cost to hit aggressive product SLAs.
• • Build robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks that track model accuracy, drift, error rates, and user satisfaction in production. You will set up continuous feedback loops, A/B tests, and automated retraining triggers to keep Maia reliable and trustworthy.
• • Translate cutting-edge research into production-ready features. You will move rapidly from notebook prototypes to Java-based micro-services, collaborating with backend, frontend, and UX teams to ship features that delight customers and move key business metrics.
• • Stay hands-on with code every day. Whether you are profiling GPU utilisation, refactoring Java services, or writing reinforcement-learning reward functions, you will lead by example and raise the technical bar across the Data Science organisation.
• • Champion a culture of experimentation and learning. You will run internal tech talks, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to Matillion’s open-source initiatives, ensuring the entire company stays at the forefront of AI innovation.
• • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Managers to prioritise the AI roadmap, with Customer Success to understand real-world pain points, and with Leadership to align emerging technology bets with company strategy.
