Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Build and own the AI infrastructure that powers Sequence’s revenue platform, enabling reliable software on top of non-deterministic LLMs through agentic workflows, prompt iteration, tool use, and evaluation systems.
- • Design and implement AI-powered approval workflows that translate natural language business rules (e.g., "require VP approval for deals over $100k with annual terms") into deterministic, auditable, and scalable business logic for enterprise customers.
- • Develop an intelligent collections agent that autonomously manages late payment workflows based on natural language instructions (e.g., "send a reminder at 7 days overdue; escalate at 14 days"), collecting relevant context and executing actions without human intervention.
- • Own end-to-end delivery of AI systems from ideation to production, including identifying customer problems, designing solutions, shipping code, monitoring performance, and iterating based on real-world usage and failures.
- • Construct evals infrastructure including curated datasets, LLM-as-a-judge pipelines, prompt regression tests, and continuous monitoring systems to ensure model reliability and prevent degradation in production.
- • Design resilient systems that account for partial failures, state drift, and model instability, treating LLMs as untrusted inputs by default and implementing recovery mechanisms for long-running AI workflows.
- • Select and integrate appropriate tooling for building, evaluating, and securely running multi-provider AI systems in production, with informed opinions on platforms like Vertex AI, Langsmith, and similar frameworks.
- • Collaborate directly with product and design teams to understand customer pain points and translate them into technical requirements, prioritizing product impact over technical novelty.
- • Participate in on-call rotations for production systems that handle $1B+ in annual invoice volume, ensuring high availability and rapid incident response for revenue-critical infrastructure.
- • Influence the fundamental architecture of Sequence’s AI platform during a phase of rapid scaling, from a lean team of 20+ engineers, with direct access to customers and decision-making authority.
- • Maintain high standards for software reliability, distinguishing between "it works" and "it’s reliable"—prioritizing correctness, observability, and auditability in all systems handling financial workflows.
- • Communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to non-engineering stakeholders, documenting decisions and sharing work-in-progress to gather feedback and align on priorities.
- • Embrace ambiguity in early-stage product development, iterating rapidly based on customer input and operational feedback rather than waiting for fully scoped requirements.
- • Stay current with production-grade AI engineering practices, including security threats, model poisoning risks, prompt injection countermeasures, and data privacy considerations in financial contexts.
- • Contribute to the engineering culture by sharing knowledge, reviewing code, and improving internal tooling, documentation, and processes around AI system deployment and maintenance.
🎯 Requirements
- • Shipped LLM-based systems to real customers with firsthand experience of production failures and edge cases
- • Designed agentic systems with deep understanding of building blocks: embeddings, memory, tool use, long-running state, and recovery from partial failures
- • Built evals infrastructure including datasets, LLM-as-judge pipelines, prompt regression tests, and monitoring systems for AI reliability
- • Shipped production backend systems with strong emphasis on reliability over functionality
- • Has informed opinions on tooling for multi-provider AI systems in production (e.g., Vertex AI, Langsmith)
- • Comfortable with production ownership and on-call responsibility for revenue-critical infrastructure
🏖️ Benefits
- • Salary: $210,000 - $230,000
- • Meaningful equity share options
- • 20 days vacation plus national holidays
- • Competitive healthcare and 401K
- • Visa sponsorship available
- • Three days per week in the New York City office with team lunches on Wednesdays
- • Biannual company offsites
