- • Lead the design and implementation of WEX’s cloud-native AI/ML engineering platform supporting both Generative AI and traditional AI/ML applications.
- • Drive technical architecture, engineering best practices, and quality standards for AI/ML systems to ensure security, reliability, scalability, performance, and operability.
- • Partner with Data & Analytics, Risk & Compliance, Line of Business (Commercial, Digital, Technology), Security, Central Architecture, PaaS, Global Tech Services, Finance, Marketing, and Customer Service teams to align AI/ML platform development with business needs.
- • Architect and implement AI/ML infrastructure, platforms, and services with strong integration across enterprise systems and products.
- • Collaborate with information security and SRE teams to enforce data encryption, access controls, SLOs, and error budget compliance.
- • Evaluate and integrate external technologies and vendor solutions that enhance WEX’s AI/ML strategy.
- • Create, prioritize, and execute technical roadmaps, project plans, and commitments with measurable outcomes.
- • Report on development status, system performance, quality metrics, and operational health to leadership and cross-functional partners.
- • Set clear, data-driven quality goals and DORA metrics for engineering teams, ensuring continuous improvement and high standards.
- • Provide technical mentorship, training, and guidance to engineering teams on AI/ML principles, automation, and software development best practices.
- • Foster an inclusive, innovative, and high-performing engineering culture focused on continuous learning and talent attraction.
- • Advise senior leadership on complex technical and business challenges impacting the organization’s AI/ML transformation.
- • Provide strategic thought leadership on business initiatives using deep technical and industry expertise.
- • Maintain financial responsibility for team budgets and resource allocation.
- • Hold teams accountable for delivering results against defined OKRs.
- • Ensure seamless integration of the AI/ML platform with data lakehouse environments and operational reporting systems.
- • Champion a culture of transparency, visibility, and collaboration across engineering and non-engineering teams.
- • Engage in full software development lifecycle, including production monitoring, deployment, and operational support.
- • Work closely with Data Science and ML Engineering teams to operationalize models and scale AI solutions across multiple lines of business.
- • Promote the use of data and AI tools to enhance productivity and solution quality in engineering workflows.
- • Challenge the status quo to drive superior technical solutions that meet the evolving demands of a high-growth commerce and payment technology company.
🎯 Requirements
- • 15–20 years of software design and development experience at a large scale
- • Strong software development skills in Java and Python
- • Demonstrable experience in Kubernetes and Terraform
- • Broad understanding of distributed computing frameworks like Ray and Spark
- • Deep expertise in building and scaling data lake environments and AI/ML platforms
- • Experience with cloud architecture tools and services (S3, EMR, Lambda) and proficiency in AWS or Azure
