- • As a Staff ML Research Engineer at SandboxAQ, you will serve as the critical bridge between cutting-edge research and production-grade systems, architecting and scaling the scientific codebases that power Large Quantitative Models (LQMs) to revolutionize drug and materials discovery. Your work will directly enable in silico design to become the dominant paradigm in pharmaceutical innovation, accelerating the development of life-saving medicines through advanced ML and physics-based modeling.
- • You will lead the translation of scientific research into robust, scalable ML algorithms by architecting and implementing high-performance code that transforms academic prototypes into production-ready systems, ensuring technical excellence across the entire software lifecycle from foundational research to long-term support and maintenance.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities will include driving the ideation, benchmarking, and execution of complex datasets and ML models, implementing advanced software and hardware optimizations for distributed cloud GPU environments, and owning the full lifecycle of LQM-powered simulation frameworks to maximize efficiency and scientific impact.
- • You will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of experts in AI, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and engineering, working in a culture that values creativity, ownership, and transformative impact, where your contributions will directly advance SandboxAQ’s mission to solve global challenges through AI-driven scientific innovation.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in distributed ML systems, GPU optimization, and agentic coding practices while gaining hands-on experience in bringing research breakthroughs to commercial products, positioning you at the forefront of AI-accelerated scientific discovery and enabling significant career growth in a high-impact, fast-growing technology company.
🎯 Requirements
- • MSc (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related quantitative field with a focus on advanced computational methods
- • 5+ years of industry experience developing productionized software in professional engineering teams
- • Proven experience training and optimizing large-scale ML pipelines on distributed cloud GPUs using frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
