• As a key member of the Comet Agents team, you will collaborate with a talented group of AI ML, backend, and full-stack engineers. Together, you will build delightful and powerful agentic experiences within our innovative Comet ecosystem. Your contributions will directly impact the capabilities of our AI agents, enabling them to perform increasingly valuable tasks and provide seamless assistance to our users.
• Your core mission will involve bringing cutting-edge AI expertise, sharp product intuition, and a passionate tinkerer's mindset to push the boundaries of what AI agents can achieve. You will bridge the gap between applied research and practical engineering, tackling complex, open-ended problems in AI.
• Key areas of focus will include designing sophisticated AI agents that can intelligently navigate the digital world, performing a wide array of valuable units of work for our users. This involves developing sophisticated action and decision models that, based on complex multimodal states, can accurately determine the best course of action to accomplish user-specified objectives.
• You will be instrumental in providing consistently excellent user experiences across diverse platforms, including desktop, mobile, headless cloud environments, and beyond. This will be achieved through the development of flexible abstractions and the implementation of frictionless backgrounding capabilities, ensuring agents are always available and responsive.
• A significant aspect of your role will involve developing robust permission architectures, advanced payload classifiers, and other innovative methods to implement secure-by-design agentic capabilities. Ensuring the safety, privacy, and reliability of our agents will be paramount.
• You will also contribute to the design of optimal data representations and define novel modes of interaction between agents and their environments, creating more intuitive and effective AI-powered tools.
• Responsibilities extend to driving cutting-edge AI capabilities across multiple layers of our rapidly growing AI agents product. This includes developing and leveraging state-of-the-art AI models, robust infrastructure, and advanced browser technologies to expand the capability frontier and scale these advancements to meet the demands of our rapidly growing user base.
• Maintaining a high craft and quality bar is essential, encompassing both the performance of our AI agents and the overall user experience. You will work closely with fellow engineers, designers, product managers, data scientists, and other cross-functional teams to seamlessly integrate core Perplexity functionality into Comet agents and vice-versa, fostering a cohesive and powerful product.
• You will also play a crucial role in ensuring product reliability, upholding code quality standards, contributing to AI evaluation processes, and participating in testing and maintenance efforts across the broader team, ensuring the long-term success and stability of our agentic systems.
• This role offers a unique chance to work on challenging problems with real-world impact, contributing to a product that is redefining how people interact with information and accomplish tasks through AI.

🎯 Requirements

• Strong foundational familiarity with the full AI product stack, encompassing model development, deployment, and integration.
• Proficiency in Python, with bonus points for experience in TypeScript, Go, and/or Rust.
• Significant experience in at least one of the following areas: Context engineering and tool interfaces for frontier AI models; Post-training and reinforcement learning (particularly for multimodal models); Browser technologies (CDP, Playwright, extension development, etc.).
• Strong product intuition and a keen taste for user experience excellence.
• Comfort working within a small, fast-moving team, with a demonstrated willingness to dive in and take ownership of tasks and projects.
• A genuine passion for shipping products that surprise and delight users.
