• G2i Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented AI Software Engineer specializing in Python to join our innovative team. In this fully remote role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of artificial intelligence by training large language models (LLMs) to generate production-grade code across a diverse spectrum of programming languages. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your deep understanding of software engineering principles and your keen eye for code quality to directly influence the capabilities of cutting-edge AI systems.
• Your primary responsibility will be to act as an expert human evaluator and refiner for AI-generated code. This involves a multi-faceted approach to ensuring the AI learns to produce code that meets the highest standards of correctness, efficiency, and stylistic consistency. You will engage in rigorous code comparison and ranking, meticulously assessing multiple code snippets generated by the AI. This evaluation goes beyond simple preference; you will be tasked with articulating precisely why one code snippet is superior to another, identifying subtle nuances in logic, performance, and adherence to best practices.
• A significant aspect of your role will be the repair and refactoring of AI-generated code. This means taking code that may be functional but imperfect and transforming it into clean, efficient, and maintainable solutions. You will apply your software engineering expertise to fix bugs, optimize algorithms, improve readability, and ensure compliance with established coding standards and language specifications. This hands-on work is crucial for guiding the AI's learning process, providing it with concrete examples of high-quality code.
• You will be instrumental in injecting your expert feedback into the Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) pipeline. This involves providing clear ratings, making precise edits, and documenting test results. Your insights will be directly translated into reward signals that the reinforcement learning algorithms use to tune the model. Essentially, you will be teaching the AI to think, critique, and improve code in a manner analogous to how experienced human engineers approach the task.
• The RLHF process, in essence, involves generating code, having expert engineers like yourself rank, edit, and justify their choices, converting this valuable feedback into quantifiable reward signals, and then using reinforcement learning to fine-tune the model. The ultimate goal is to develop an AI that can propose, critique, and improve code to a level where it is ready for production deployment.
• This role demands an exceptional level of attention to detail. You will be meticulously analyzing code, identifying potential issues, and articulating your reasoning with clarity and precision. Your written communication skills will be paramount, as you will frequently need to explain complex technical decisions and justify your evaluations in written form. This ability to clearly articulate the 'why' behind your code assessments is non-negotiable and forms the bedrock of effective AI training in this context.
• You will thrive in an asynchronous, low-oversight environment, demonstrating a high degree of autonomy and self-direction. This requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a comfort level with managing your own workload effectively. • While no prior experience in RLHF or AI training is required, and deep machine learning knowledge is not a prerequisite, your ability to critically review and critique code is fundamental. This is an independent contractor (1099) role, offering flexibility in hours with a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week and up to 40 hours available.

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on Python development.
• Demonstrated ability to perform rigorous code reviews, identifying logic errors, performance bottlenecks, and potential security vulnerabilities with speed and accuracy.
• Exceptional written communication skills and an extreme attention to detail, crucial for articulating code quality assessments and justifications.
• Proven ability to work independently in an asynchronous, low-oversight environment, with a proactive approach to tasks and problem-solving.
• Enjoyment of reading technical documentation and language specifications, coupled with a willingness to learn new AI training methodologies.
• (Bonus) Experience with constraint programming.
