Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead and develop a senior team of technical and analytical Independent Contributors focused on automation, analytics, reporting, and quality systems for User Safety & Risk Operations.
- • Set strategic direction and operating cadence for a horizontal team supporting safety and risk operations across multiple workflows and domains.
- • Prioritize a portfolio of high-impact initiatives based on user impact, risk reduction, operational need, technical feasibility, and scalability.
- • Build and maintain operational health dashboards, SLA and backlog monitoring systems, and quality measurement frameworks to improve visibility and accountability.
- • Design and implement workflow automation systems including automated triage, routing, prioritization, signal enrichment, case clustering, review assistance, and reporting automation.
- • Develop and enhance systems for emerging risk identification, analysis, and cross-team signal sharing to proactively address evolving threats.
- • Identify opportunities where AI, LLMs, classifiers, or lightweight tooling can improve operational efficiency, while designing robust evaluation, monitoring, human review, and fallback mechanisms.
- • Establish measurement and quality standards for operational systems, including golden sets, sampling strategies, reviewer calibration, false-positive/false-negative tracking, and system-health metrics.
- • Partner with operational leaders to understand workflow bottlenecks, root causes, and high-value needs, translating them into scalable, reusable systems rather than one-off analyses.
- • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Product Policy, Safety, Legal, and Support teams to translate user and operational insights into better tools, processes, and outcomes.
- • Raise the bar for technical judgment, written communication, prioritization, and execution across a senior, autonomous team.
- • Balance automation with human judgment, ensuring sensitive user-safety decisions retain appropriate oversight, quality controls, and review pathways.
- • Operate with high agency in ambiguous environments, creating structure and measurable progress without overbuilding or unnecessary complexity.
- • Maintain discretion and resilience when exposed to sensitive or concerning content as part of safety operations.
- • Apply practical AI tooling and agentic workflows (e.g., LLMs, Codex-like platforms) to automate and enhance real-world operational tasks.
- • Ensure all systems are designed with scalability, reliability, and auditability in mind to support global user safety operations at frontier AI scale.
🎯 Requirements
- • 12+ years of relevant experience in trust and safety, risk operations, data, analytics, automation, product operations, integrity, fraud, or similarly high-stakes operational environments.
- • 4+ years of people management experience leading senior technical, analytical, or highly independent ICs.
- • Highly technical for an operations leader: comfortable with SQL, dashboards, data quality, classifier/eval concepts, automation design, and practical AI tooling.
- • Experience working with LLMs, agentic workflows, Codex-like tools, or internal AI platforms to automate operational work.
- • Proven track record of building systems that materially improved operational workflows, such as workflow automation, triage/routing systems, detection workflows, operational reporting, or classifier feedback loops.
- • Ability to distinguish high-value automation from risky automation and design human-in-the-loop review, monitoring, quality controls, and fallback mechanisms for sensitive workflows.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Opportunity to work on mission-critical systems that make frontier AI products safer and more trustworthy.
- • Collaborative environment partnering with Product, Engineering, Policy, Legal, Safety, and Support teams across OpenAI.
- • Exposure to cutting-edge AI tools and internal platforms to enhance operational efficiency and innovation.
- • Hybrid work model with 3 days/week in-office in San Francisco, CA.
- • Role involves meaningful impact on global user safety and risk mitigation at scale.
- • Access to OpenAI’s commitment to ethical AI development and inclusive workplace policies.
