📋 Description

• As an Applied AI Engineer at Zello, you will be one of the first dedicated builders focused on transforming AI agent prototypes into production-ready tools that directly enhance collaboration and productivity for desk-less workers worldwide. Your work will have immediate impact by enabling internal teams to automate workflows, access data-driven insights, and improve operational efficiency through AI-powered Slack-integrated agents and assistants.
• You will own the full lifecycle of AI agents—from scoping use cases with stakeholders and writing production Python code that integrates LLM APIs, to deploying, monitoring, and continuously improving agents in real-world environments. This includes connecting AI tools to Zello’s core systems like Slack, Jira, HubSpot, and Snowflake via APIs, ensuring robust error handling, logging, and monitoring.
• Day to day, you will build evaluation harnesses to detect regressions and measure agent quality, manage human reinforcement workflows by reviewing outputs and tuning behavior, and triage failures to drive measurable improvements. You’ll also create reusable components, patterns, and documentation to accelerate future development across the team.
• You’ll collaborate closely with the Data & AI team and cross-functional stakeholders, communicating technical outcomes clearly to both engineers and non-technical users, ensuring alignment on what’s working, what needs attention, and where new opportunities lie.

🎯 Requirements

• 2-5 years of professional experience in software engineering, AI engineering, or a related technical role with proven ability to write production Python code for tools, integrations, or shipped products.
• Practical understanding of LLM APIs, including prompt construction, context window management, token economics, and tool-use patterns.
• Experience integrating systems via APIs (e.g., Slack, Jira, HubSpot, Snowflake), including handling authentication, rate limits, error cases, and logging.
• Strong ability to decompose complex problems into clean, well-defined components with clear interfaces, abstractions, and failure mode thinking.
• Quality mindset: instinctively asks how to verify correctness and detect failures, and proactively builds tests and monitoring.
• Comfort with operational ownership—monitoring deployed systems, reviewing outputs, managing feedback loops, and driving improvements over time.
• Ability to quickly learn new frameworks, APIs, and domains, with examples of going from zero to productive in unfamiliar areas.
• Clean, documented coding style that enables others to read, understand, and extend your work without walkthroughs.
