- • Conduct structured literature searches using PubMed and Zotero to support the Chief Medical Officer’s strategic priorities, maintaining an organized, accessible literature library for leadership use
- • Synthesize published evidence into clear, honest briefings that accurately reflect what the literature supports and does not support, ensuring leadership decisions are grounded in empirical evidence
- • Construct patient cohorts and execute analyses within the CMS Virtual Research Data Center (VRDC) using Medicare claims data, following analytic specifications provided by senior researchers and the Head of Impact Analytics
- • Build, maintain, and validate analytical datasets and code with strict attention to data integrity, reproducibility, and auditability
- • Translate VRDC output into interpretable findings for internal review, iteration, and downstream application across the research and clinical teams
- • Document all analytical workflows and research processes to a standard that enables full team-wide reproducibility and peer review
- • Partner with senior researchers, clinical staff, and operations teams to identify, refine, and prioritize high-impact research questions
- • Contribute to white papers, case studies, and peer-reviewed publications in supporting or co-author roles, adhering to academic rigor while meeting company timelines
- • Utilize SQL for complex querying and data manipulation of healthcare claims data, including Medicare RIF/LDS files
- • Apply R or Python for statistical analysis, research computing, and automation of repetitive analytical tasks
- • Employ structured literature screening and evidence-synthesis methodologies consistent with systematic review standards
- • Operate within Notion or equivalent knowledge-management platforms to maintain collaborative documentation and research libraries
- • Navigate and comply with CMS VRDC operational rules, including cell-size suppression, output caps, and named-seat constraints
- • Apply descriptive epidemiology and standard regression techniques to observational healthcare data
- • Evaluate and adopt emerging AI-assisted tools for literature research, contributing to ongoing team assessments of emerging technologies
- • Communicate findings clearly to both technical teams and executive stakeholders through concise, precise written briefings
- • Balance academic rigor with the urgency of a high-growth startup environment, making pragmatic research decisions without sacrificing defensibility
- • Maintain meticulous attention to detail in code, data outputs, and documentation to ensure accuracy and reliability
- • Manage competing priorities between the Chief Medical Officer and Head of Impact Analytics, with the judgment to communicate capacity limits honestly and effectively
- • Demonstrate natural curiosity beyond narrow technical specialties, seeking to understand the broader healthcare system and patient experience
🎯 Requirements
- • Master's-level training in Public Health (HSR or Biostatistics concentration), Health Services Research, Health Policy with quantitative concentration, Epidemiology, or Biostatistics
- • 1–3 years of post-graduate experience working with healthcare data (graduate research assistant work counts)
- • Proficiency in SQL for complex data querying and manipulation
- • Proficiency in R or Python for statistical analysis and research computing
- • Experience with structured literature searches using PubMed, Boolean operators, MeSH terms, and Zotero
- • Familiarity with Medicare claims data structures (RIF/LDS files), ICD-10, HCPCS, NDC, and DRG codes
