We are seeking a talented Backend Engineer to contribute to our mission of transforming how insurers and brokers connect, operate, and grow by enabling smarter decisions, enhancing efficiency, and fostering seamless collaboration across the global insurance ecosystem.
• As a Backend Engineer, you will be an integral part of a small, independent, and highly functional backend team, typically comprising a maximum of 4-5 members. Each team operates with autonomy, guided by a dedicated Technical Lead and Product Owner, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and the delivery of impactful features.
• Your responsibilities will span the entire software development lifecycle, from prototyping innovative solutions and implementing robust backend services to shipping production-ready code and providing ongoing support. You will be instrumental in developing features that are fundamentally changing the insurance landscape, with a particular focus on digitizing risks through advanced Generative AI technologies.
• The core of our product revolves around sophisticated risk digitization, where Generative AI plays a crucial role. You will be working with a highly skilled and distributed engineering and product team across Europe, contributing to a product that is at the forefront of technological advancement in the insurance sector.
• This role offers a unique opportunity to work with a modern and extensive tech stack, allowing you to deepen your expertise and explore new technologies. You will be involved in building scalable, reliable, and efficient backend systems that power our AI-driven platform.
• You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and APIs that are critical to our platform's functionality. This includes writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, adhering to best practices in software engineering.
• Collaboration will be key, as you’ll work closely with product owners, technical leads, and other engineers to understand requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and deliver high-quality software.
• You will contribute to the architecture and design of new features and systems, ensuring they are scalable, performant, and secure.
• Debugging and troubleshooting production issues will be part of your remit, requiring a systematic and analytical approach to identify and resolve problems efficiently.
• You will actively participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and ensuring code quality across the team.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes, tooling, and infrastructure.
• Gain hands-on experience with a wide array of cloud-native technologies and services, particularly within the AWS ecosystem, including serverless computing with AWS Lambda, data storage with S3 and RDS, API management with API Gateway, and messaging services like SQS and SNS.
• You will be involved in leveraging and potentially enhancing our Generative AI capabilities, contributing to the core intelligence of our platform.
• The role demands a proactive approach to learning and adapting to new technologies and methodologies, as the tech landscape and our product evolve rapidly.

🎯 Requirements

• Proficiency with Git and GitHub for version control and collaborative development.
• Strong experience in Python development, with familiarity with modern libraries and frameworks such as msgspec, httpx, pydantic, fastapi, structlog, sqlalchemy, alembic, jinja2, pytest, ruff, and mypy.
• Extensive experience with static type checking, particularly using Mypy, or similar tools like MyPy.
• Proven experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs, with an understanding of OpenAPI specifications.
• Solid understanding and practical experience with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL (Postgres).
• Hands-on experience with containerization using Docker and docker-compose for local development environments.
• Experience deploying and managing applications using AWS Lambda, AWS S3, AWS RDS, AWS API Gateway, AWS SQS, AWS SNS, and AWS SES.
