Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Serve as the primary point of coordination for ERM’s Impact Assessment Environmental Clearance team, leading desktop-based environmental constraints analyses for utility-sector construction sites across Southern California. You will translate complex biological and water-resource data into clear, actionable recommendations that keep projects compliant, on schedule, and environmentally responsible.
- • Conduct rigorous desktop reviews using GIS layers, NWI maps, USGS quads, aerial imagery, and proprietary databases to identify sensitive habitats, wetlands, and special-status species ranges. Translate findings into concise risk matrices and avoidance/minimization strategies that field teams can implement immediately.
- • Own the creation and continuous refinement of Excel-based tracking tools that log site-specific constraints, mitigation measures, and regulatory triggers. Your dashboards will be the single source of truth used by project managers, clients, and regulators to monitor environmental compliance in real time.
- • Become the go-to expert on the client’s Work Management System—training colleagues, writing quick-reference guides, and troubleshooting data uploads so that every biological observation, avoidance action, and monitoring result is captured accurately and on time.
- • Collaborate daily with a multidisciplinary team of botanists, wildlife biologists, hydrologists, and regulatory specialists. Your coordination ensures that desktop findings seamlessly integrate with field protocols, agency submittals, and construction schedules.
- • When field verification is required, deploy independently to remote sites with sub-meter GPS units to confirm desktop predictions, document habitat conditions, and adjust mitigation measures on the spot. Field days may involve rugged terrain, variable weather, and early-morning starts.
- • Champion ERM’s safety culture by completing pre-task plans, attending tailgate briefings, and mentoring junior staff on safe work practices in both office and field settings.
- • Identify and implement process improvements—whether automating a repetitive GIS task, streamlining a data-entry workflow, or proposing a new KPI—that save time, reduce error rates, and enhance client satisfaction.
- • Prepare technically accurate, visually compelling maps and memos that withstand scrutiny from agencies such as the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and Regional Water Quality Control Boards.
- • Support business development by capturing lessons learned, contributing to proposals, and presenting case studies that demonstrate ERM’s value in delivering compliant, cost-effective environmental clearances.
- • Maintain meticulous documentation of all decisions, data sources, and QA/QC steps to ensure defensible analyses and smooth project audits.
- • Exhibit a growth mindset: seek feedback, pursue professional certifications (e.g., CWB®, AICP Environmental Planner), and stay current on evolving regulations, technologies, and best practices in biological and water-resource consulting.
