- • Join Perplexity and be at the forefront of browser innovation as an Infrastructure Engineer for Browser Development. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in building, maintaining, and scaling the robust, automated, and reliable infrastructure that powers our cutting-edge Chromium-based browser, Comet. Your expertise will directly impact the speed and efficiency of our development cycles, enabling our teams to innovate faster and deliver exceptional browser experiences to our users.
- • You will be responsible for architecting and managing sophisticated Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. This involves setting up, configuring, and maintaining systems like TeamCity or Jenkins, ensuring that code changes are seamlessly integrated, built, tested, and deployed with maximum automation and minimal human intervention. Your work will be critical in streamlining the development workflow, reducing build times, and enhancing the overall quality of our browser releases.
- • A significant part of your role will involve supporting and evolving the core infrastructure for Chromium browser development. This includes leveraging and advancing our Kubernetes (k8s) clusters for container orchestration, utilizing Terraform for declarative infrastructure as code, and employing Ansible for configuration management. You will ensure that our development environments are not only stable and performant but also scalable to meet the growing demands of our ambitious browser roadmap.
- • You will play a key role in establishing and refining our monitoring and alerting systems. This entails configuring and managing tools such as Sentry for error tracking and Datadog for comprehensive performance monitoring. Your efforts will ensure that we have deep visibility into the health and performance of our infrastructure, enabling proactive identification and rapid resolution of any issues before they impact our development teams or end-users.
- • Managing our cloud infrastructure, primarily on AWS, will be a core responsibility. You will oversee the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers and virtual environments, ensuring optimal resource utilization, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to security best practices. Your understanding of cloud-native architectures and services will be crucial in maintaining a resilient and efficient operational environment.
- • Developing robust automation scripts using languages such as Bash, Python, and Go will be essential to your success. You will identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, streamline operational processes, and enhance the overall efficiency of the infrastructure team. This includes scripting for deployment, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- • Ensuring the high availability, resilience, and security of our development infrastructure is paramount. You will implement strategies and best practices to minimize downtime, protect against potential threats, and maintain the integrity of our systems. This involves regular security audits, performance tuning, and disaster recovery planning.
- • Collaboration is key to this role. You will work closely with our talented browser developers to understand their needs, optimize their workflows, and provide them with the tools and environments they require to be productive. You will also be a crucial part of incident response, helping to diagnose, resolve, and document issues, and contributing to post-incident reviews to prevent recurrence.

🎯 Requirements
- • Minimum of 3 years of experience in software development infrastructure, with a strong preference for experience with Chromium-based browsers or similar large-scale C++ projects.
- • Proven hands-on experience in DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and practices, including extensive work with monitoring, alerting, and incident management.
- • Deep technical proficiency with container orchestration (Kubernetes), infrastructure as code (Terraform), configuration management (Ansible), cloud platforms (AWS), operating systems (Unix/Linux), and CI/CD tools (TeamCity, Jenkins).
- • Strong practical skills in scripting and automation using Bash, Python, and/or Go.
