- • The Certified Coder (Remote) - Emergency Medicine role at Washington University in St. Louis is responsible for reviewing medical record documentation to assign accurate billing codes (CPT and ICD-10) and ensure proper documentation for emergency medicine services, directly supporting compliant reimbursement and revenue cycle integrity.
- • Day-to-day duties include reviewing patient records to identify pertinent facts for diagnosis and procedure coding, assigning appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes, meeting with physicians to resolve documentation issues and secure signatures, assisting other coders with medical terminology and policy interpretation, preparing case reports, and initiating follow-up for billing processes.
- • The role is part of the university’s health information management or revenue cycle team within a leading academic medical institution, contributing to accurate clinical documentation and financial operations in a remote work environment with occasional on-site expectations.
- • The position offers the opportunity to deepen expertise in emergency medicine coding, develop leadership skills as a resource for peers, and contribute to physician education on documentation standards, supporting both professional growth and organizational compliance.
🎯 Requirements
- • Must hold one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or a valid AAPC specialty-specific credential).
- • Previous coding experience or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- • Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems is preferred.
