📋 Description
- • Serve as a Chipewyan-English telephone interpreter providing real-time verbal interpretation for clients across healthcare, 911, law enforcement, government, education, insurance, financial services, utilities, travel & hospitality, and legal industries.
- • Render conversations accurately and completely between Chipewyan and English speakers, adhering strictly to interpretation protocol without omissions, additions, or personal commentary.
- • Maintain professional, courteous, and neutral demeanor during all interpreting sessions, including high-stress or emotionally charged situations such as end-of-life discussions, pregnancy terminations, and emergency 911 calls.
- • Interpret complex technical and non-technical subjects with precision, applying industry-specific terminology in medical, legal, financial, and government contexts.
- • Remain calm and focused during prolonged calls, high-volume periods, or when speakers are incoherent or distressed, ensuring consistent service quality under pressure.
- • Follow client-specific instructions and protocols, avoiding direct interaction with Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals unless explicitly authorized by the client.
- • Ensure cultural competency by recognizing regional dialects, accents, and cultural nuances to facilitate clear, respectful, and effective communication between parties.
- • Work exclusively from a dedicated home office with a quiet, secure, and distraction-free environment to protect client confidentiality and maintain call integrity.
- • Utilize company-provided technology platforms and adapt to system updates that enhance service delivery and meet evolving client demands.
- • Answer interpreting requests promptly, adhering to scheduled availability and maintaining punctuality for assigned shifts.
- • Operate a personal device (desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone) running Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iOS, or Android to access interpreting systems.
- • Maintain a high-speed internet connection with minimum download speeds of 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, ping under 300 ms, and jitter under 30 ms.
- • Refrain from using restricted hardware (Huawei) or software (Kaspersky products) to ensure compliance with security protocols.
- • Demonstrate strong listening, retention, and note-taking abilities to preserve accuracy during live interpretation.
- • Support inclusivity and diversity by respecting the identities and expressions of all individuals, including those related to sexual orientation and gender identity.
- • Perform all duties in alignment with ASTM and ISO certification standards for language services.
- • Access support resources including Senior Language Specialists and Interpreter and Technology Help Desks for guidance and technical assistance.
- • Understand that this role involves verbal interpretation only and does not require written translation, though translators are encouraged to apply for other roles.
- • Maintain manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and mouse for system navigation and may be required to lift up to 26 lbs for equipment setup.
- • Be available to work during peak hours, including extended calls without breaks when required by call volume or situation severity.
