- • Lead the CLI/Local Experience team at Supabase, guiding technical direction and team execution for developer tooling across Windows, Linux, and macOS, with a focus on delivering a consistent, secure, and performant command-line interface.
- • Spend approximately 60% of time on hands-on engineering contributions in TypeScript and 40% on leadership duties including coaching, 1:1s, goal setting, performance reviews, hiring, and promotion recommendations for a team growing from 3 to 6 engineers.
- • Own the team’s hiring plan and full recruitment loop, drive technical strategy via RFCs and design reviews, and ensure technical excellence in code quality, test coverage, release readiness, and backward compatibility.
- • Collaborate with product and engineering leadership in a shared roadmap model to define priorities, unblock engineers, improve workflow practices using tools like Linear, and continuously enhance the local developer experience based on customer feedback, OSS issues, and usage signals.
- • Contribute to Supabase’s mission as a Postgres development platform by improving the local development workflow that integrates with Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search services.
- • Work within a globally distributed, async-first, open-source culture spanning 280+ team members across 55+ countries, where building in public and using internal tools is core to the engineering ethos.
- • Grow both technically and as a leader by influencing architecture decisions, mentoring engineers, and shaping the future of developer experience at scale in a high-impact, fast-moving environment.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful work on command-line developer tools.
- • Strong professional experience in TypeScript and a proven track record of shipping production-grade CLI tooling.
- • Prior experience leading engineers, including people management responsibilities (performance, growth, hiring) in a distributed and asynchronous work environment.
- • Deep understanding of cross-platform concerns including filesystem behavior, subprocesses, terminal UX, and platform-specific quirks across macOS, Linux, and Windows.
- • Experience designing intuitive CLIs with clear command structure, helpful output, and actionable error messaging.
- • Familiarity with testing strategies for CLIs (unit, integration, end-to-end) and CI/CD pipelines, as well as release/versioning and backward compatibility in widely used developer tooling.
