📋 Description

• Own the end-to-end reliability of a multi-region, million-user IoT platform that streams petabytes of telemetry from connected devices to AWS-native services (EC2, EKS, MSK, Lambda, Aurora) and hybrid edge nodes—ensuring 99.9 % uptime for mission-critical use cases such as predictive maintenance, real-time asset tracking, and cross-border data analytics.
• Architect and continuously optimize Kubernetes clusters (EKS) and containerized micro-services to handle bursty IoT workloads; tune autoscaling policies, resource limits, and node affinity rules so that latency-sensitive MQTT and WebRTC traffic meets sub-second SLAs while keeping cloud spend predictable.
• Build rock-solid CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins and GitLab CI that automatically test, scan, and deploy infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and application artifacts across US-West-2, China-North-1, and EU-Central-1; integrate canary releases and blue-green deployments so new features reach global users with zero downtime.
• Develop Python and Shell automation that eliminates toil: create self-healing scripts for log aggregation, anomaly detection, and cross-region backup/restore; write RESTful API integrations that synchronize device metadata between AWS IoT Core and partner clouds, reducing manual ticket volume by 40 %.
• Harden security posture end-to-end—configure TLS 1.3 encryption, enforce RBAC and IAM least-privilege policies, and run quarterly penetration tests on IoT gateways and API endpoints to satisfy GDPR, CCPA, and China’s Cybersecurity Law; maintain SOC 2 evidence packs for auditors.
• Serve as the technical bridge between Los Angeles-based product teams and China-based engineering squads: run weekly architecture reviews, translate regional compliance requirements into backlog items, and mentor junior engineers on both continents via pair-programming and design sessions.
• Monitor, alert, and troubleshoot using Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch; define SLOs/SLIs for ingestion throughput, API latency, and device connectivity, then drive post-incident reviews that turn outages into actionable runbooks and permanent fixes.
• Contribute to the open-source community by upstreaming Kubernetes operators and IoT SDK patches, raising Embedding VC’s profile as a thought leader in cloud-native IoT operations.

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years operating cloud platforms at million-user scale, with deep expertise in AWS (EC2, EKS, MSK, Lambda, Aurora) and hybrid architectures.
• Hands-on mastery of Linux, Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, GitLab CI, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
• Strong scripting chops in Python and Shell for automation, RESTful API integration, and data validation.
• AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect credential (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
• Nice-to-have: experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Kafka, Athena, MQTT, WebRTC, and edge-cloud collaboration patterns.
