• Supervise all compounding personnel including pharmacy technicians and essential support staff to ensure accurate and efficient preparation of compounded medications.
• Perform and accurately document compounding procedures, quality assurance/quality control checks, and dispensing of compounded preparations.
• Verify formula records, compounding records, beyond use dates, and finished compounded products to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Assist in training, evaluating, and mentoring compounding personnel to maintain high standards of practice and safety.
• Coordinate calibration, maintenance, and proper use of compounding equipment in collaboration with the maintenance team.
• Adhere strictly to USP <795>, USP <800>, and other applicable general chapters and best practices for non-sterile compounding.
• Ensure all compounding activities comply with safety protocols, including mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling hazardous drugs.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and compliant compounding environment in alignment with FDA regulations and Arizona State Pharmacy Board requirements.
• Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives, audits, and quality assurance projects to enhance operational excellence.
• Perform pharmacist duties including patient consultation, drug utilization reviews, error documentation, and dispensing activities.
• Collaborate with the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) on personnel management, compliance, and regulatory matters.
• Complete required external training and stay current on evolving pharmacy laws, compounding standards, and safety protocols.
• Drive adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and contribute to the development and updating of training manuals and operational guidelines.
• Manage workflow by organizing technician tasks, verifying preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, and inspecting order entries and charges.
• Protect patients and staff by following infection-control protocols and safety procedures for handling hazardous drugs.
• Perform inventory management, record keeping, auditing processes, and other assigned operational tasks as needed.
• Work in a fast-paced environment requiring prolonged standing, sitting, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and walking during 12-hour shifts.
• Lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation and wear required PPE for extended periods during compounding activities.
• Work Wed-Sat from 6:30am to 5:00pm and be available for flexible shift times as operational needs require.
• Maintain proficiency in Windows-based computer systems and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Work cross-functionally with remote teams to support pharmacy operations and compliance initiatives.
• Contribute to a world-class patient experience by ensuring accuracy, safety, and professionalism in every aspect of medication preparation and delivery.
🎯 Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or Doctorate degree in Pharmacy
• Active Pharmacist License in Arizona
• 5+ years of pharmacist experience, with at least 3 years in a compounding pharmacy
• Non-sterile compounding experience
• Must be able to undergo respirator fit testing; full beards or excessive facial hair may prevent proper seal
• Proficiency in Windows-based computer systems and English (verbal and written)
