- • The Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) Subject Matter Expert (SME) serves as the technical authority for designing, implementing, and operating secure, reliable, and efficient delivery pipelines across on-premises and multi-cloud environments, ensuring safe and automated movement of changes from approved to live states with embedded policy, security, and auditability.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include designing release orchestration, implementing progressive delivery strategies (blue/green, canary, feature flags), establishing automated rollback mechanisms, conducting post-deployment verification against SLOs, maintaining end-to-end traceability in ITSM systems, and aligning practices with federal frameworks such as NIST RMF/CSF, Zero Trust/TIC 3.0, and SSDF to sustain Authorization to Operate (ATO) requirements through automation.
- • The role is part of General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a global technology and professional services provider supporting U.S. government, defense, and intelligence agencies, operating within the Cyber and IT Risk Management job family to deliver mission-critical solutions that enhance security, compliance, and operational resilience.
- • In this position, the CI/CD SME will drive measurable improvements in DORA metrics (deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, MTTR), standardize a "paved road" to production that reduces manual toil, enable teams to focus on feature development, provide leadership with real-time visibility into release status, and ensure audit-ready compliance through automated evidence generation, ultimately making deployments predictable, secure, and invisible to end users.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (four additional years of related experience in lieu of degree)
- • 10+ years of experience in DevOps or Platform Engineering with hands-on ownership of production deployments at enterprise scale, including 3+ years in regulated or federal environments (VA/DoD/DHS/HHS or highly regulated industries)
- • Proven ability to improve DORA metrics using progressive delivery and automated rollback (deployment frequency ↑, lead time ↓, change failure rate ≤5–10%, MTTR ↓20–40%)
- • Demonstrated experience implementing feature-flag-driven releases, blue/green and canary strategies, zero-downtime database changes, and integrating deployments with ITSM (e.g., ServiceNow) for audit-ready evidence generation
- • Deep technical expertise in release orchestration, policy-as-code (OPA, Checkov, etc.), GitOps (Argo CD/Flux), Kubernetes/OpenShift, telemetry-based post-deployment verification, and secrets management within CI/CD pipelines
