- • As a Contract Senior Web Engineer at Fueled, you will architect the foundational systems that power dynamic, large-scale digital experiences for global brands, defining the technical backbone of projects using deep WordPress expertise, modern PHP, and sophisticated Gutenberg architecture.
- • Day to day, you will architect and build enterprise-level WordPress solutions by developing high-performance plugins and themes with modern PHP and React.js-based Gutenberg blocks, define back-end technical vision and strategy for large-scale projects, provide expert code reviews that champion code quality, security, and maintainability, and solve complex performance and caching challenges to transform slow systems into fast, resilient platforms handling millions of visitors.
- • Fueled is a leading digital strategy, design, and engineering agency with a 300+ person team that has designed and built hundreds of digital products for brands like Google, Apple, The New York Times, ESPN, Victoria’s Secret, MGM Resorts, Albertsons, and CLEAR, operating as an intentionally remote and globally distributed team across six continents that values flexibility, creativity, and cutting-edge technology.
- • In this role, you will achieve ownership of a significant back-end feature or system within your first month, drive measurable performance or caching improvements by the 3-month mark that increase site speed or stability, directly shape project strategy through technical guidance that is implemented and praised by team and client, establish new WordPress development best practices adopted by other engineers, and leave behind a legacy of robust, well-architected systems that continue to perform at scale with a standing invitation for future collaboration.
🎯 Requirements
- • Deep passion for pushing WordPress to its limits with expert-level mastery in modern PHP and a sophisticated understanding of the Gutenberg ecosystem
- • GitHub demonstrating real-world WordPress code that shows ability to build elegant, scalable solutions (no whiteboard tests needed)
- • Strategic partner and communicator comfortable leading technical discussions with clients and translating business needs into a powerful technical vision
- • Master of the back-end development lifecycle with extensive Git workflow experience and proven ability to debug and optimize complex systems
- • Thrives on a distributed team, proactively collaborating and leading from a remote location to deliver exceptional results
