- • The Data Annotation Specialist (Contract) role at Ground News is a mission-critical position supporting the development of machine learning systems that power bias detection, content clustering, and news intelligence features—directly contributing to the platform’s goal of helping users break free from algorithmic filter bubbles and engage with news more thoughtfully and objectively.
- • This remote, part-time contract role (approximately 5 hours per week) offers a unique opportunity to apply meticulous attention to detail in a high-impact environment where data quality directly influences the reliability and fairness of AI-driven news analysis tools used by a growing community of mindful readers across Canada and beyond.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include validating article metadata by comparing extracted fields (publication date, attribution, headline, description) against source articles using rendered HTML or screenshots; evaluating whether articles should be clustered together based on topic, context, and editorial relevance using defined rubrics; assessing summary quality for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with source material through structured scoring frameworks; annotating and labeling text, images, and documents according to precise guidelines to support ML model training and evaluation; ensuring consistent, high-quality annotation across all tasks by adhering to detailed instructions and evaluation criteria; and collaborating asynchronously and synchronously with a distributed team to refine workflows, share best practices, and meet project milestones.
