- • As a Data Engineer on OpenAI's Scaling Analytics team, you will build and scale the analytical foundations that power OpenAI's infrastructure organization, enabling data-driven decisions across hardware operations, capacity planning, supply chain, and site execution for the world's most advanced AI infrastructure ecosystem.
- • Day to day, you will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines; develop trusted datasets and reporting systems for hardware inventory, deployment status, and capacity utilization; partner with cross-functional stakeholders to define metrics and improve decision-making; create scalable data models across multiple data sources; improve data quality, lineage, observability, and governance; support executive reporting and strategic planning; integrate new data sources and operational telemetry; reduce manual reporting efforts; and document systems for long-term maintainability.
- • The Scaling Analytics team serves as the data backbone for OpenAI's Industrial Compute expansion across global data center campuses, transforming fragmented operational data into actionable insights to support infrastructure deployment, hardware health, supply flows, and operational performance at unprecedented scale.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in infrastructure analytics, gain experience with large-scale operational telemetry and business-critical reporting, develop executive reporting capabilities, and contribute to the analytical foundations supporting some of the world's largest AI infrastructure deployments while navigating ambiguous operational environments and translating complex problems into scalable data solutions.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of experience building and maintaining production data pipelines and analytical systems
- • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience designing scalable data models
- • Proficiency in Python or another programming language commonly used for data engineering
- • Experience working with modern data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and orchestration frameworks (e.g., Airflow, Dagster)
- • Experience designing reliable ETL/ELT workflows with a focus on maintainability, performance, and operational excellence
- • Experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
