- • Manage a team of 2–3 data scientists, growing to 5–6, providing technical mentorship and leadership in fraud detection and identity verification.
- • Lead end-to-end development of fraud detection models, including data acquisition, feature engineering, model training, productionalization, and ongoing monitoring.
- • Develop and maintain SentiLink’s suite of real-time identity verification and financial risk products used to detect application fraud at scale.
- • Write production-ready Python code for models that support real-time decision-making for financial institutions and other partners.
- • Design and execute analyses that inform product development, risk operations, marketing, and sales strategies based on fraud patterns and data insights.
- • Research emerging fraud typologies and translate findings into new product features and capabilities for identity verification.
- • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and risk operations teams to align model development with business goals and timelines.
- • Communicate model performance, progress, and strategic insights clearly to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- • Define success metrics, secure buy-in, and deliver solutions that drive measurable business impact in a fast-paced environment.
- • Oversee the full model lifecycle from hypothesis generation through deployment and performance tracking, ensuring reliability and scalability.
- • Leverage AWS infrastructure (EC2, S3, RDS, Redshift) and PostgreSQL for data storage, processing, and model deployment.
- • Foster a culture of deep domain understanding, critical thinking, and inventive feature engineering over incremental ML methodology optimization.
- • Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, and documentation to ensure models are robust and maintainable in production.
- • Drive iterative experimentation with new data sources and techniques to improve fraud detection accuracy and reduce false positives.
- • Act as a technical authority within the organization, challenging team members to elevate their work and solve complex, high-impact problems.
- • Contribute to strategic planning, resource allocation, and cross-team communication to ensure alignment with company-wide objectives.
- • Support the expansion of SentiLink’s product offerings beyond financial services into new markets through data-driven innovation.
- • Participate in the development of internal tools and pipelines that streamline data labeling, model validation, and monitoring workflows.
- • Ensure all models comply with regulatory and operational standards for identity verification and fraud detection in the U.S. financial ecosystem.
- • Stay current with industry trends in fintech, identity solutions, and fraud detection to inform product roadmap and technical direction.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years relevant work experience with a relevant Master’s degree or 7+ years with a relevant PhD
- • 2–5 years of direct management experience leading a team of data scientists, ideally in a startup environment
- • 3+ years of startup experience
- • Proven track record of solving complex, high-profile business problems using data science and machine learning solutions
- • Experience writing production-ready code and tests in Python
- • Strong end-to-end data science skills: planning, defining metrics, securing buy-in, developing, and delivering solutions
