- • A Data Specialist role focused on making messy energy market data usable through deep understanding, research, and Python-based wrangling — not just moving data through pipelines, but investigating, mapping, and cleaning complex datasets to ensure reliability for downstream users.
- • Day-to-day tasks include mapping BM units to power plants and fuel types, reconciling legacy and current data formats, cleaning time-series data (outliers, gaps, overlaps), building reference datasets, developing Python data grabbers, creating dbt models, orchestrating workflows via GitHub Actions, and designing PostgreSQL schemas grounded in domain knowledge.
- • Part of Alex Staff Agency, a remote-first team that values async collaboration via Slack, GitHub, and documented decisions, with core overlap expected during UK business hours (at least 4 hours daily).

🎯 Requirements
- • Strong Python skills for data work — fluent with pandas, capable of writing clean, testable code, and building reusable data processing logic
- • Solid SQL skills — ability to write complex queries, use window functions and CTEs in PostgreSQL
- • Experience with messy, real-world data — background in reconciliation, cleaning, or mapping work, understanding that not all data issues are automatable
- • Methodical and detail-oriented — notices inconsistencies and seeks to understand root causes
- • Good documentation habits — recognizes that undocumented mappings and assumptions create technical debt
- • Self-directed — able to own ambiguous problems, conduct independent research, and communicate findings clearly
