  • • Commission and edit a diverse range of feature types for daily digital publication on Notebook, MUBI’s English-language online film publication, shaping its perspective on world cinema
  • • Manage the daily digital editorial workflow for Notebook, including maintaining the publishing calendar, managing the editorial budget, and processing contributor payments
  • • Build article layouts using the editorial CMS to ensure consistent and compelling digital presentation
  • • Compose and distribute a weekly email newsletter to engage Notebook’s global readership
  • • Conceive, develop, and oversee new editorial initiatives that expand the scope and reach of Notebook’s content
  • • Scout, cultivate, and maintain a global network of contributors, including emerging critics and established voices in film writing
  • • Commission, edit, and proofread features for the biannual print edition of Notebook, contributing from issue development through final production
  • • Monitor analytics and audience insights to set and refine growth targets for digital readership and engagement
  • • Represent Notebook at film festivals, screenings, and industry events on the ground in London or New York
  • • Coordinate promotional strategies with the social media team to amplify editorial content across platforms
  • • Collaborate closely with Content and Marketing teams to align editorial output with MUBI’s broader programming and audience initiatives
  • • Maintain high editorial standards as a strong copy editor and proofreader, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and stylistic consistency across all published work
  • • Advocate for underrepresented and non-mainstream cinema through thoughtful curation and critical framing
  • • Write original, high-quality editorial content that reflects deep knowledge of international, historical, and contemporary cinema
  • • Juggle multiple simultaneous projects of varying scale and priority while meeting tight deadlines
  • • Work independently to meet deadlines and provide regular progress updates to the Editor-in-Chief
  • • Maintain exceptional attention to detail, organizational discipline, and patience in a fast-paced editorial environment
  • • Function as a collaborative team player with an enthusiastic, proactive attitude toward editorial innovation and audience expansion
  • • Work hybrid-remote with a requirement to be in the London office (Soho) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; flexibility to use the office on Mondays and Fridays is available
  • • Alternatively, based in New York City (Midtown office) with same hybrid requirements and core office days

🎯 Requirements

  • • At least three years of professional editing experience within a cultural publication
  • • Deep passion for and extensive knowledge of international, historical, and contemporary cinema beyond mainstream releases
  • • Active familiarity with the current landscape of English-language film criticism
  • • Excellent communication skills for coordinating an international roster of contributors
  • • Strong copy editing and proofreading abilities
  • • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under tight deadlines
