đź“‹ Description
- • As a Design Lead at Top Hat Monocle Inc., you will be instrumental in shaping the future of higher education technology by leading the product design process from ideation through to implementation. This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity to work across the entire design spectrum, tackling complex challenges that impact millions of students and educators across North America.
- • You will immerse yourself in the user experience, dedicating significant time to engaging directly with professors and students. This involves actively listening to their challenges, understanding their aspirations, and gathering critical insights that will inform design decisions and drive product innovation.
- • Collaboration will be a cornerstone of your role, particularly with Senior Product Managers. You will work hand-in-hand to identify and articulate the most significant problems worth solving, translating user needs and business objectives into elegant and effective design solutions.
- • A key responsibility will be the iterative development of concepts. You will explore a wide range of ideas, creating both low and high-fidelity prototypes. Crucially, you will solicit and incorporate feedback from fellow designers, your product team, and end-users to refine designs and ensure they meet user needs and business goals.
- • Top Hat operates on a true agile methodology, emphasizing small, frequent updates. As Design Lead, you will be at the forefront of shipping features, working closely with engineers to ensure that your designs are translated into high-quality, functional products that delight users.
- • You will play a vital role in enhancing our team's processes and design systems. As a senior contributor, your informed opinions on how design systems and components can best serve our user base will be highly valued. You will collaborate with the broader design organization to continuously improve our methodologies, including the integration of recent advancements in Artificial Intelligence.
- • This role demands a deep understanding of the full design lifecycle, from initial problem discovery and user research to concept iteration, stakeholder management, and the successful shipping of solutions. You will be expected to navigate ambiguity, champion user-centered design principles, and drive consensus among cross-functional teams.
- • Your design intuition will be critical. You will leverage your strong sense of visual design, understanding how typography, color, and spacing contribute to intuitive and engaging user interfaces. This includes a keen awareness of how aesthetic choices directly impact the overall user experience and brand perception.
- • A commitment to inclusive and accessible design is paramount. You will be expected to champion the creation of interfaces that are usable by everyone, regardless of ability. Familiarity with accessibility standards, such as WCAG 2.1 AA, will be a significant asset in ensuring our products are equitable and universally accessible.
- • Beyond your direct responsibilities, you will be encouraged to take initiative and contribute to the growth of the design team and the company. We seek individuals who are passionate about advancing their craft, proactively seeking opportunities to learn, experiment, and make a tangible impact beyond their day-to-day tasks.
- • Experience in maintaining and evolving design systems is highly desirable. You will contribute to systematizing our design language, ensuring consistency and efficiency across our product suite, and further developing your expertise in this critical area of product development.
- • You will be a key player in exploring the evolving landscape of design, particularly the integration of AI. This includes experimenting with AI tools for image generation, prototyping, and content creation, viewing AI as a powerful augmentative tool that enhances, rather than replaces, the human element in the design process.
- • A strong command of interaction design principles will enable you to think beyond static screens, conceptualizing and refining complex, often non-linear, user interactions and animations to create seamless and engaging experiences.
- • You will also have opportunities to apply usability heuristics and potentially conduct usability benchmarks, ensuring our designs are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly effective and efficient for our users.
- • Ultimately, you will lead by example, fostering a collaborative and innovative design culture, and contributing significantly to Top Hat's mission of transforming higher education through technology.
