Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a DevOps - Platform Engineer at August Health, you will be a core contributor to the infrastructure that powers a modern operating platform and electronic health record (EHR) system designed to empower caregivers in senior living communities. Your work will directly impact the reliability, security, and scalability of tools that enable high-quality care for elders by simplifying caregiver workflows, eliminating inefficiencies, and providing actionable insights—making this role mission-critical to August Health’s goal of transforming senior care through technology.
- • You will own and evolve the AWS-based infrastructure using Pulumi, ensuring it is reliable, cost-efficient, and maintainable while supporting rapid engineering velocity. This includes managing EKS clusters, Aurora/RDS databases, Lambda functions, VPC networking, and Cognito for identity—making smart tradeoff decisions that balance performance, security, and operational overhead.
- • You will operate and improve Kubernetes platform capabilities, focusing on workload scheduling, resource management, networking, and observability to ensure stable and performant application deployments at scale. Your expertise will help debug complex issues, optimize cluster efficiency, and maintain platform stability as user demand grows.
- • You will own and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, driving fast, safe, and reliable software delivery by refining workflows, reducing build times, tightening feedback loops, and implementing robust deployment safeguards that align with engineering best practices.
- • You will harden infrastructure security and support compliance readiness for healthcare-regulated environments, implementing controls that meet SOC 2 and HIPAA requirements through least privilege access, secrets management, audit logging, and proactive risk mitigation—ensuring August Health maintains trust with customers and regulators.
- • You will support data pipeline infrastructure by ensuring the reliable operation of workflows involving tools like Snowflake and Apache NiFi, enabling timely and accurate data flow for analytics and AI/ML use cases that power product insights and clinical decision support.
- • You will deploy and maintain LLM observability and evaluation tooling (e.g., Langfuse, Phoenix, Helicone) as August Health integrates AI capabilities into its product, enabling prompt tracing, performance monitoring, and quality assessment to ensure safe and effective AI-driven features.
- • You will manage secure, zero-trust connectivity via Tailscale across distributed infrastructure, ensuring safe access for engineers and services while minimizing attack surface and enabling seamless collaboration across remote teams.
- • You will design, document, and regularly test disaster recovery (DR) and incident response (IR) processes, ensuring organizational readiness for disruptions through structured planning, simulation exercises, and continuous improvement of response protocols.
- • You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to influence architecture decisions and promote a culture of ownership, responsibility, and continuous improvement—acting as a trusted advisor on infrastructure tradeoffs and helping shape engineering practices that scale with the company.
- • You will develop strong communication and documentation skills by explaining complex infrastructure decisions to non-infrastructure engineers, writing clear runbooks and architecture diagrams, and contributing to a knowledge-sharing culture that elevates team-wide operational maturity.
- • You will exercise significant autonomy and self-direction, identifying infrastructure improvements, prioritizing work based on impact and risk, and driving projects to completion with minimal oversight—allowing you to grow into a technical leader who shapes both systems and team effectiveness.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong hands-on experience with AWS services including EKS, Cognito, Aurora, RDS, Lambda, and VPC, with the ability to make informed tradeoff decisions across services based on reliability, cost, and operational complexity.
- • Proficiency with Kubernetes in production, including operating clusters at scale, debugging issues, managing workloads, and optimizing resource utilization and networking.
- • Experience with infrastructure as code, preferably Pulumi (or Terraform/CDK), with a track record of managing and evolving cloud infrastructure in a reliable, maintainable way.
- • Comfort with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD systems, including building and optimizing pipelines for fast, safe, and reliable software delivery.
- • A security-minded mindset with experience in least privilege, secrets management, and compliance—specifically hands-on experience working toward or maintaining SOC 2 and/or HIPAA compliance in a regulated environment.
- • Solid observability background, including experience with Prometheus, instrumenting backend services, and evaluating metrics setups to identify gaps or misleading signals.
- • Familiarity with data pipeline infrastructure, including tools like Snowflake and Apache NiFi, to support reliable data engineering workflows.
- • Strong communication skills, enabling you to clearly explain infrastructure decisions to non-technical stakeholders and produce high-quality documentation.
- • Proven self-direction and initiative—ability to identify needs, prioritize effectively, and drive projects to completion without heavy oversight.
🏖️ Benefits
- • 100% company-paid premiums for health, dental, and vision coverage, ensuring comprehensive care for you and your dependents at no personal cost.
- • Company contributions to your Health Savings Account (HSA), helping you save and pay for qualified medical expenses with tax advantages.
- • 2% 401(k) match to support your long-term financial planning and retirement readiness.
- • Access to Rightway Health Advocacy and Spring Health Mental Wellness services, providing personalized support for navigating healthcare and maintaining mental well-being.
- • Flexible time off policy and 100% paid family leave, supporting work-life balance and important life events.
- • All-expenses-paid, in-person company offsites twice a year, fostering team connection, collaboration, and culture in engaging settings.
